Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Indiana is a state filled with traditions and good times all its own. It seems like no matter what, there’s always something interesting going on, like a party, a festival, an event, or anything else, and we Hoosiers are always excited to show up. Take, for example, the town of Spencer: on the third weekend of every September, the town turns into a tasty paradise by means of the awesome Apple Butter Festival, which has become a local tradition that draws in crowds from all over the state. This is one delectable apple butter festival in Indiana that you won’t want to pass up:
With a population of less than 2,500, the town of Spencer is one of those small towns in Indiana that gets overlooked all too often.
But anyone who manages to get a closer look will realize that it's a town packed with friendly faces and delightful traditions, like the annual Apple Butter Festival that takes place at the beginning of every autumn.
This festival is the very definition of old-school, having been a thing since 1929!
When I say that literally tens of thousands of folks have attended these festivals over the years, I'm totally serious - it's been a much-beloved Hoosier State tradition for 95 years and counting.

Nowadays, it actually resembles much the same party as it was all those decades ago.
Sure, we have cameras and cell phones now, but the simple pleasures of apple butter in the fall never changes... it's one of the few examples in this life of no change being a net positive.
Apple butter is a preserve, somewhat like a jam, made up of slow-cooked apples in a concoction of cinnamon and other warm spices. It's absolutely amazing on just about anything that's good with jelly, and it's a seasonal delight most of us look forward to every year.
With hundreds of awesome vendors lining the streets of downtown Spencer, you're sure to shop and browse 'til you drop (or until you're too full of apple butter to go on).
There will also be a parade, a flyer contest, and so much more. It's not JUST about the apple butter; it's also solidly about the community, and if any town knows community, it's Spencer.
So come out on Saturday, September 16th and see what this sweet-n-spicy party is all about.
I can't think of many more perfect ways to welcome the arrival of autumn.
