We love all of the Sunflower State, but it can sometimes feel like western Kansas is the red-headed stepchild that just doesn’t get as much love because it’s flat, it’s rural, and it’s filled with farmland. This is the quintessential rural landscape that comes to mind when most people in other states think about Kansas. It’s true that this part of the state doesn’t have much in the way of bustling cities or metropolitan areas, but there’s tons of beauty here and there are plenty of attractions in western Kansas worth a visit, with one of our favorites being Meade State Park in Meade County. This 440-acre park is the only state park in southwest Kansas and it’s such a beautiful place with plenty of recreational opportunities.

Looking for somewhere to stay near Meade State Park can be difficult since it’s such a rural area, but you can check out this cozy home on Vrbo that’s quite close.
