The Jenny Wiley Festival is a tethering force within the community. While there are plenty of county fairs you can enjoy in Kentucky, this event separates itself by the spirit of resilience that is palpable throughout the festival.

Enjoy all of the fun the festival has to offer such as the classic country cooking, carnival games, and balloon animals such as the one pictured here.

In addition to being one of the most special festivals Kentucky has to offer, it is also located in one of the most scenically beautiful parts of the state. The rolling Kentucky hills are truly a sight to behold.

The parade that ties the festival together is the best way to see the community in action. Everyone from the area comes out to represent their individual causes and the kids love all of the special attractions.

And did we mention all the delicious food that will be available to sample? Bring your appetite!

No festival is complete without live music. Throughout the weekend you will see acts ranging from classic rock to the native favorite, Bluegrass.

Let's start with the classics. It is my personal belief that you can judge a place by their ability to master the classics, and Dewey's is a prime example of how it's done.

If basic pepperoni isn't exactly your speed, Dewey's has you covered. Their menu consits of plent of off the wall offerings such as the jalapeño, chicken, and tomato option pictured here.

The Braxton beer list has always been legendary in the greater Cincinnati area, and that has only been amplified by the fact that you can now pair each of these delicious offerings with a pizza that brings out all of its finer notes.

There are some meals that just need a beer to accompany them, and Dewey's Pizza fits neatly into that category. Where they have decent beer options at their standalone locations, the ability to order the whole list of Braxton beers is a true game-changer.

Not only does Dewey's offer some of the greatest pizza in Kentucky, but they also come to the plate with some truly creative options.

If you are in search of a place to bring a crew, this might just be the top of my list in The Bluegrass State. From the sharable pizza options to the incredible ambiance, you are practically guaranteed to enjoy your time.

Devou Park is known in the greater Cincinnati area for having the absolute best view of the Cincinnati Skyline. This view comes as the perfect ending to a nature walk.

Beyond having all of the traditional park activities, Devou also comes complete with multiple locations where weddings can be held as well as group gatherings of any kind.

Another awesome accommodation of Devou Park is all of the different types of trails. From beautiful hiking trails to offroad biking trails, you can find it all at Devou!

If you have smaller children in the family, be sure to check out their playground space.

Pack yourself a delicious picnic and enjoy it at one of the many sheltered table locations.

If you find yourself wanting to play a round of golf, Devou may be the perfect park for you. Their course is known to be one of the top spots in the state to play a round.

If the concert scene is more up your alley, Devou still has you covered. You can check the schedule for events that happen at least monthly throughout the summer. It's the perfect way to meet the community.

One of the most fun offerings of the pretzels is the different shapes, sizes, and colors that they come in. Last year, when the Cincinnati Bengals were fighting for a Super Bowl, they took it upon themselves to make “blackout” pretzels to cheer the hometown team to victory.

Tuba Baking Co. is known for their otherworldly pretzels (and for good reason), but they have a ton more to offer. Between the full German food menu to the line of beers straight from the Motherland and their incredible Beirgarten, this space is truly special.

There are several European breweries in Kentucky, but I would put their list up against any claiming to have the best German beer in the United States. As a big fan of German beers myself, this place has it figured out.

This Flammkuchen is created by crafting a short fermented sourdough made of spelt and rye to limit the rise but still have the flavor, rolled it out super thin and toped with creme fraiche, thin onion, Alto Aldige speck, and a light blend of butterkase and Swiss. Unreal.

Every weekend, these hand-pulled pretzels go into the oven and result in one of the best snacks known to man. Each pretzel is served with their famous spicy mustard, German cheeses, or sauerkraut. Not a bad option out of the three.

Tuba’s Brezeln are fully sourdough and each batch starts with their 13 year-old rye starter that takes three days from start to finish. They use Southern German grains like spelt and rye in each batch. Hand shaped and dipped into a traditional lye bath to get them to that deep rich Maillard-Mahogany crisp crust with the soft buttery sourdough crumb steaming within. As good as it gets.

This delicious Cordon Bleu is a prime example of their ability to button things up and offer an authentic German cuisine that goes so far beyond the German staple items.

There’s something special about the community in Pendleton County, and the weekend of The Wool Fest is essentially their Super Bowl.

If you’ve never experienced the combination of freshly brewed root beer and freshly popped kettle corn, get ready to have your mind blown. While there are plenty of food options to explore and enjoy, this is the tent you will find me at more than likely.

One of the most special pieces of the festival is the live music. You will hear the history on full display as Bluegrass musicians plan timeless folk songs that tell the story of Kentucky.

There’s never a bad time to make a new friend, and the animals at The Wool Fest are ready to meet you half way.

While there is plenty of parking at the festival, you can always park your car in one of the designated lots and hitch a complementary ride with one of the commuting buses.

It wouldn’t be a proper Falmouth Kentucky event without a nod to the German heritage of the area. You’d be hard-pressed to find something more delicious than a bratwurst fresh from the grill.

Considered by many to be a relatively easy route, this path takes an average of 50 minutes to complete. Whether you are hiking, running, or walking, this hike is sure to scratch your nature itch.

Find exciting nooks and crannies along the way left by the forest's inhabitants that give this ecosystem its rich character.

Find historical relics of generations gone by such as this primitive well that has kept the majority of its structure despite being around for generations.

Meet some new friends along the journey such as the park's wide population of birds, butterflies, and box turtles like this guy.

The trails at this park have been finely manicured to give you the best hiking experience possible.

One of the most fascinating artifacts to check out along this train is this abandoned home along the trail. Its unique structure and remaining integrity will send you back to a long-gone era.

Fall is an especially enjoyable time here. Take in the foliage while breathing in the crisp fall air to make your fall day-trip a home run.

Welcome to Greenville! The county seat of Muhlenberg County, this charming town has a population of just under 5,000.

To get a feel for the region's musical history, be sure to stop by the Everly Brothers Monument Museum in nearby Graham.

The Bard Distillery may not be quite as old as some of its competitors, but their roots run deep and their bourbon is second to none.

More history and even some local artwork can be found inside Thistle Cottage, a charming and historic home that promises to impress.

The 9/11 Memorial in town is a meaningful way to pay homage to those whose lives were lost.

Ready to spend some time outside? The Brizendine Brothers Nature Park is a lovely option, especially in the autumn.

When the weather is nice, be sure to get out and enjoy a stroll on the Muhlenberg County Rail Trail.

Fun fact: thanks to its central location geographically, Kentucky doesn't typically see fall colors starting to peek through until early October while states further north with see it beginning in September.

By the week of October 9th, the whole state should be under some kind of autumn color buzz.

It's not too warm, but it's not too cold - it's typically just right.

While Halloween’s more than a month from the official start of winter, it looks like we’ll enjoy clear skies but cold temperatures for the spookist day of the year, and it will remain that way through the first week of November.

The weather promises to be downright finicky throughout November, as we deal with chilly temperatures and plenty of rain. However, the Farmers’ Almanac predicts that Thanksgiving will be clear and dry.

If you’re not in the holiday spirit as the calendar’s pages turn to December, chances are you soon will be. The month ushers in with a mighty storm that could drop up to a foot of snow throughout the region.

Be prepared to deal with some form of snow – showers, flurries, and a wintry mix – through Christmas. We might get a white Christmas, although the Farmers’ Almanac is “hopeful” the snow and rain mix will clear up before Santa takes his sleigh ride around the globe.

We’ll likely ring in the New Year with some flurries and snow showers. January will be cold, sometimes bitterly, and there will be snow showers throughout. There’s no mention of a major snowstorm.

Our final full month of winter, February looks to be much of the same as January with lots of scattered snow. The Farmers’ Almanac predicts that we’ll welcome spring with some wet snow in the eastern part of the state.
