Winter’s right around the corner, which means it’s time to start preparing. That means making sure our tires are in good shape and packing our trunk with supplies – blankets and an ice scraper, for example – just in case. But what can we expect from the upcoming winter? The winter predictions for Kentucky have been released by the Farmers’ Almanac, and it looks like we’ll be bundling up, drinking hot cocoa, and dealing with rain and snow through the season.
While Halloween’s more than a month from the official start of winter, it looks like we’ll enjoy clear skies but cold temperatures for the spookist day of the year, and it will remain that way through the first week of November.
The weather promises to be downright finicky throughout November, as we deal with chilly temperatures and plenty of rain. However, the Farmers’ Almanac predicts that Thanksgiving will be clear and dry.
If you’re not in the holiday spirit as the calendar’s pages turn to December, chances are you soon will be. The month ushers in with a mighty storm that could drop up to a foot of snow throughout the region.
Be prepared to deal with some form of snow – showers, flurries, and a wintry mix – through Christmas. We might get a white Christmas, although the Farmers’ Almanac is “hopeful” the snow and rain mix will clear up before Santa takes his sleigh ride around the globe.
We’ll likely ring in the New Year with some flurries and snow showers. January will be cold, sometimes bitterly, and there will be snow showers throughout. There’s no mention of a major snowstorm.
Our final full month of winter, February looks to be much of the same as January with lots of scattered snow. The Farmers’ Almanac predicts that we’ll welcome spring with some wet snow in the eastern part of the state.
