One thing you can count on in the lovely state of Kentucky is our vast collection of gorgeous parks where a family can spend the entire day enjoying nature, music, and all kinds of fun activities. We especially love Central Park in Ashland, Kentucky, as it is a gem in the middle of an already charming riverfront town. Let’s take a closer look at this wonderful park with so much to see and do.
Central Park is built on 47 acres which was originally a horse racing track. In 1923, it became a park that is known as the “Crown Jewel” of Ashland with over 1,100 trees and a vast collection of amenities. This gazebo, for example, is surrounded by trees that were planted when the park was first established, making them 100 years old.
The beautiful pond is filled with lilypads with lotus flowers and has three floating fountains. It’s the perfect place for a nice stroll or to simply sit and relax. At night, the fountains are lit up with colorful lights.
This splash pad is a great place for the kids to play and cool off during the warm summer days. Several benches surround it so parents may take a load off their feet and watch their children play.
The bandstand often has live music, plays, and all kinds of other live entertainment and events where locals can gather and enjoy the talents of their community.
Speaking of history, there are burial mounds here that date back to a people that predate the local Native American Nations. There were once many more and these are the last few that are left.
There’s even a sensory garden where people are invited to touch and smell the various plants, flowers, and other objects in this space. The park also has playgrounds, volleyball, basketball, and tennis courts, a baseball field, concession stands, and more to make this the ultimate family destination.
