Most visitors to Kentucky will head straight to the big cities like Lexington and Louisville, and there are many good reasons to do so. However, the charm of this state is most evident in its smaller towns where the pace is slower and there’s a welcoming and friendly community feel and no shortage of things to see and do. Elizabethtown is not on many people’s radar, but a summer weekend in this Kentucky town will certainly put it on yours!

This wonderful market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays from April to October and has locally-made baked goods, wines, herbs, flowers, preserves, pickles, and so much more. It even has homegrown Alpaca yarn to knit amazing creations.
If you’re looking for live music and other entertainment, the Historic State Theater Company is an old-fashioned venue with concerts almost every week, and it also offers movies, plays, and other entertainment.
While the exterior may look old-fashioned, the interior is gorgeous and is an excellent venue for live concerts and other kinds of entertainment with modern lighting and sound to make for a top-notch experience.
Elizabethtown has had an annual seasonal BBQ, Bands & Bikes Festival for several years which brings together delicious food, live music, and a vast array of cool-looking motorcycles of all kinds. However, this festival is being replaced with the Heartland Harvest Festival which is returning after an 18-year hiatus.
There are other seasonal festivals like Heartland Homecoming, Cruisin’ The Heartland, and Founders Day. Elizabethtown shares its birthday on July 4 with the entire nation!
