Delhi is a tiny little town in Richland Parish that’s home to about 2,600 residents. While it may seem like a fly-by town, it’s actually home to one of the most remote state parks in Louisiana, Poverty Point Reservoir State Park. Don’t be fooled by the size of the town, this state park is huge, and a great destination for anyone looking for an escape to a more natural setting.

As you may have guessed, the state park gets its name from the reservoir, which is the main attraction to the park.

And the reservoir is named after the nearby World UNESCO Site, Poverty Point.
Since the park sits right along the Mississippi Flyway, it’s a top-shelf spot to do a little birdwatching.

Depending on the season you can catch cormorants, bald eagles, and ducks all make their way across this highway in the sky.

There is a 48 slip marina, a boat launch, and a cleaning station all set up for you to catch your record breaking largemouth bass, blue gill, and channel catfish.

You can also fish from the pier, or if you rent a cabin, you can fish right from your cabin!
This is one area of Louisiana that’s home to quite a few black bears, and visitors should take extra precautions here.

I’m usually warning folks of gators, but black bears are on a whole new level. Make sure to keep your pets on a leash, and don’t leave any food out in the open. There are bear-proof receptacles peppered around the park to dispose of your garbage properly.
Poverty Point Reservoir State Park is perfect for a day trip, but if you'd like to extend your stay, there are plenty of RV slots, primitive camping sites, and cabins you can rent.
