Rockland is one of the world's largest shipping centers, helping to export Maine's annual average of over 100 million lobsters.
With the huge demand for lobster from Maine, Maine is able to provide lobster for over 5,600 independent lobstermen.

It's easier to catch lobster in Maine than in other places because when the water gets colder in the winter, lobsters make their way out to sea. In Maine, they only stray 20-30 miles off the coast because of the more subtle dip in temperature than in a more southern region.
Because of the cold waters, lobsters from off the coast of Maine grow slower, but they also taste sweeter when finally enjoyed.

Although we tend to think about lobster when it comes to Maine waters, other wildlife is also prominent such as loons, ducks, seals, and over 20 species of whales and dolphins.

The Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine is a museum that specializes in American Art. It's a great educational day trip for families.
Strand Theatre is an old movie theatre in Rockland, Maine. It's also a perfect place to stop to catch a movie and unwind after dinner.

Besides movies, Strand Theatre also hosts musical performances and live events. It's a top spot for both tourists and locals.
Rockland, of course, has beautiful views of the ocean that are ideal to catch at sunrise and sunset.

There are a few different swimming and fishing spots, if you wish to do so, including Sandy Beach and Johnson Memorial Park.
