The leaves are finally changing colors and Massachusetts is buzzing with fall activities aplenty! My autumn bucket list already includes pumpkin picking, hiking, and eating way too many warm cider donuts. Additionally, I absolutely have to hit up at least one festive fall fair this season! The fall harvest supermoon will make an appearance on the last weekend of September. What better way to celebrate this magical event than by taking part in a traditional small-town harvest festival?
The South Coast Harvest Festival is one fall event that you won't want to miss! The fun will take place Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the Westport Fairgrounds in the little town of Westport.
The fair kicks off with an opening celebration on the morning of Friday, Sept. 29. Events throughout the day, include a pumpkin carving demonstration, an antique tractor procession, and a stunt trick dog show.
Once evening rolls around, romance comes alive. Enjoy date night in the beautiful gardens under a gorgeous fall harvest moon. There will be food, vendors, and fantastic live music.
The celebration continues with another whole day of fall fun on Saturday. There will be more music and live performances to enjoy; however, the event that I am most excited about is the live owl demonstration.
Eyes on Owls will hold two presentations where spectators can learn about owls and have a chance to see these beautiful creatures up close.
Sunday, Oct. 1 is the final day of the festival. There will be an interesting talk about native pollinator plants as well as an informative workshop about shitake mushrooms.
This is a great time to catch up on some of the events that you may have missed earlier in the weekend or to revisit some of your favorites. The day ends with a festive closing ceremony.
You can also buy lots of yummy food at the fair. Vendors include Ocean Grove Burrito Bar, Del's Lemonade, and No Joke Smoke BBQ.
What is your favorite thing to do during a local fall festival? To find out more information about the 2023 South Coast Harvest Festival, please visit the South Coast Harvest Festival website and the South Coast Harvest Festival Facebook page.
If you are driving in to attend the festival and need a place to stay for the weekend, I suggest booking a stay at the Best Western Dartmouth-New Bedford in nearby Dartmouth. There are also many other fantastic fall festivals happening throughout Massachusetts this season, including the historic Topsfield Fair in Topsfield.
