When I think farm to table, I don’t often think I’ll see the farm while I’m eating my meal. That’s how close you’ll get to your ingredients if you head to Maple Grill. Visitors rave about this down-home eatery for its fresh flavors and locally inspired menu. While it’s a little bit off the beaten path, it’s definitely worth the journey to get there.
Maple Grill is located in Hemlock, Michigan which is a short drive west of Saginaw. On your way, you’ll drive by miles of scenic Michigan countryside. Many of the farms you’ll pass are the same ones that provide the ingredients for the delicious meals you’ll taste.
You can see how much they value farm fresh ingredients as soon as you arrive. Before you enter the restaurant you’ll walk through their herb garden, and you know that they use them all in their meals. That’s as fresh as it gets.
Pizza is one of those foods that is hard to get wrong, but there’s certainly a way to do it right. The pizza here is elevated with their farm-fresh ingredients. Like most of their items, these pies get a great flavor from their wood-fired oven.
Craft and microbrews in Michigan are plentiful. When I can find one that also comes with high-quality food pairings, it makes the “to try list” immediately. Maple Grill has 18 taps and they claim to have a flavor suited for anyone’s taste.
When you’re working with locally sourced ingredients, it’s not easy to create a consistent menu year round. However, when those recipes are as creative and flavorful as they are at Maple Grill, that variety is more of an advantage. For those who can return here often, trying something new is never an issue.
Mouth-watering steaks are easy to come by. You can find several cuts daily on their rotating menu. It’s hard to go wrong with anything off their wood-fired grill, but it’s exceptional char gives another level to these steaks.
Two items that are an exception to the rotating menu are cornbread and maple syrup. Now it makes sense why they’re called Maple Grill.
