Michiganders better get ready to bundle up. After a relatively mild winter last year, the Farmers’ Almanac is predicting a lot more snow and colder temperatures this year. While some are welcoming these wintery conditions, others are probably hoping for another warm winter. The almanac is calling this a “cold and snowy” winter for us in the Midwest.
You’ll likely want to break out the warm blankets and hot cocoa this winter because “the brrrr is back” according to the Farmers’ Almanac.
When winter starts on December 21st, we’re already likely going to be feeling the impact of the El Nino winter. The almanac predicts this will bring cold temps and snowstorms throughout the entire country.
Blizzard conditions can be expected as early as December for Great Lakes States. This means we should be in store for a white Christmas, however traveling for the holidays could get complicated. You might want to set some backup plans if travel gets too hectic.
Those whiteout trends are predicted to continue throughout January with temperatures dropping even further. With these outlooks, it’s best to get ahead of any auto repairs or tune-ups before harsher weather comes our way. Expect sleet, ice, and rain in addition to snowstorms.
February might just be a repeat of January according to the Farmers’ Almanac. More snowstorms and below-average temps. At least we won’t be the only ones going through this. New England is expected to have a similar January and February.
If you think March means we’re walking into spring weather, you might be disappointed. This season, Michigan could receive some blizzard conditions in the early part of the month. So if you don’t mind sledding at the end of the winter months, you’re in luck.
If you didn’t like the winter we had last year, you’ll probably find what you’re looking for in 2023-24. A cold and stormy winter is set to return in Michigan.
