Living in a place for a significant time usually means we know just about everything there is to know about the area. But that comes with a downside in that we can inadvertently become complacent, taking for granted the attractions and beauty around us. It also means we might overlook a hidden gem or two. Like this little-known arboretum in Springfield, Missouri.
Unless you live near Walnut Street in Springfield, you might not have heard of Dominion Gardens and Arboretum.
After all, the natural attraction doesn't have a website or a Facebook page. Although it's earned recognition in local media, the 1.25-acre park doesn't really get the attention like its larger counterparts, including the Missouri State Arboretum.
The hidden gem in Missouri is the realization of a dream of the Horners, Pat and John, who purchased their Springfield home several years ago. It came with a second lot that they decided to turn into a neighborhood garden and arboretum.
You won't need a ton of time to see all that this Missouri arboretum has to offer along its winding path, but you'll likely be in no hurry to leave, especially if you're craving peace and quiet.
The highlight of this neighborhood arboretum, however, is undoubtedly the fountain. Several benches are strategically placed near the fountain, so you can relax and soak up the ambiance.
