Here in Alabama, we’re lucky to be surrounded by many great things and places. The original Mardi Gras took place in 1703 in Mobile, Alabama. This was several years before it was ever celebrated in New Orleans, Louisiana. People still come to Mobile from all around the country to celebrate the original Mardi Gras.

Here in Alabama, we're fortunate to celebrate all for seasons. From spring and summer, to winter and fall, the Yellowhammer State is a beautiful place to live and visit all year long.
4. Boll Weevil Monument - Enterprise

The Boll Weevil Monument is a unique statue that was built in 1919 to show appreciation for the boll weevils that wreaked havoc on the cotton crops in Enterprise, Alabama. Because of this, farmers found success with other crops, including peanuts. The Boll Weevil Monument is the only monument in the world that's dedicated to an agricultural pest, making it one of Alabama's most quirky statues.
5. Cathedral Caverns - Woodville

Alabama is home to some of the most spectacular caves in the United States, including Cathedral Caverns. With an entrance measurement of 126 feet wide and a height measurement of 25 feet, it's also one of the state's largest caves. Cathedral Caverns is the main feature of Cathedral Caverns State Park.
6. Dismals Canyon - Phil Campbell

Dismals Canyon is a unique outdoor attraction that's located off the beaten path in a small Alabama town. Not only is it a beautiful destination to explore, but it's also one of the only places in the entire world where dismalites live. 7. Vulcan

Upon arriving to Birmigham, Alabama, you can't help but notice a cast-iron statue overlooking the city. This is Vulcan, the largest cast-iron statue in the world. It stands at 56 feet tall and weighs 101,200 pounds. It can be experienced up close with a visit to the Vulcan Park & Museum.
8. Little River Canyon - Fort Payne

Little River Canyon, which happens to be the main feature of Alabama's Little River Canyon National Preserve, is known as the "Grand Canyon of the East." It's also one of the Southeast's most beautiful outdoor areas.

Alabama's Gulf Coast beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches in the nation. In fact, numerous people travel from near and far to visit our beautiful Gulf Coast to relax on our white-sand beaches and splash around in our turquoise-clear waters.
