With a land area of more than 145,000 square miles, Montana is one of the largest states in America. That can make it difficult to see every natural wonder, explore every hiking trail, and gaze at every mountain. But, it hasn’t stopped me from trying! I’m always on the lookout for new places to see, particularly those that aren’t close to home. Road-tripping to Bigfork is always fun and it brings the bonus of being able to explore Flathead Lake State Park. But, in the same region, there’s another great place to see and it’s worth making the trip no matter where you’re from.

Wayfarers State Park in Bigfork is open year round with day use from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Camping is also available from April through October. To plan your visit, be sure to visit the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks website. Here you’ll be able to receive updated hours, information on what’s open throughout the year, and find out if there are any seasonal closures.

If you’d like to experience the Bigfork area, but don’t love the idea of camping, there are plenty of other options. We love these lakeside getaways in Bigfork for a fun, long weekend.

Before you head out on any outdoor adventure, be sure to pack all the right gear for your trip. Conditions can change throughout the day and without warning, so it’s best to be fully equipped. Also, be sure to let someone know where you’re going and when you plan to be back.
