Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms. Throughout the state of Montana, visitors will find historic sights, nature to explore, and small-town charm. In fact, it doesn’t really matter where you are, there’s always something interesting hiding behind the next turn. While we always prefer to avoid favorites, we’re frequently asked to choose the one town that has it all. It’s near impossible to do it, but lately, we’re loving the small town of Ennis, Montana. With history, proximity to the outdoors, and plenty of unique charm, this is a spot you’ll want to visit as soon as you have the time.
Historic Ennis, Montana, located in the Madison Valley, is known as a top-notch destination for those who love adventure and the outdoors. It has a decidedly Western feel, making it the perfect spot for those who want to feel like cowboys and cowgirls.
It was first visited by the Shoshone, Flathead and Bannock Indians who hunted in the area each spring. Lewis and Clark even traveled through the area in the early 1800s. Eventually, in 1865, gold was found in the region making Ennis the perfect place to live and be a part of the Gold Rush.
Today, Ennis is a small town of less than 1,000 people. Throughout the year it attracts people looking for outdoor adventures in places like Wade Lake, Ennis Lake, and the Madison River. It's also surrounded by mountains, which are perfect for camping and hiking.
In addition to the incredible nature nearby, there's quite a bit to do if you love history. Madison Valley History Museum is a great place to visit to learn more about the town and surrounding area.
