In some states, every natural feature is known and notable. Kids grow up learning about each mountain, river, and waterfall making it simple to find fun, outdoor adventures. The only problem? Everyone else is doing the same thing. Luckily, in Montana, there are so many gorgeous spots to explore that many fall completely off the radar. It’s nearly impossible to be familiar with all of the 3,223 named lakes, for example. And that means that some places are completely overlooked. This waterfall in Montana is a great example!
Welcome to Morrell Falls, located off Morrell Creek in Western Montana. While this beauty might not be a spot you'll simply drive past while running errands, it's worth the effort it takes to get there.
But, the views along the way are worth it! As you get closer, you're likely to hear the roar before you see the waterfall. Plan on spending some time taking in the view before simply turning around and heading back the same way you came.
Because this waterfall in Montana is a bit off the beaten path, you're likely to find it relatively quiet. But, do watch out for the occasional cyclist and even horseback riders.
As with all falls, the strength of the flow depends on recent weather. In the spring there's likely to be more water as mountain snow melts. However, any time is beautiful to visit.
Morrell Falls is accessible via the 5.5-mile Morrell Falls National Recreation Trail within the Lolo National Forest. You can learn more about the trail to Morrell Falls on AllTrails. Be sure to stay aware of any local closures by checking out the official Forest Service website. Before you leave on any outdoor trip be sure to tell someone where you’re going and when you plan to be back. And, always make sure you have the right gear for your trip.
There are quite a few beautiful trails to explore in the area. To make the most of your trip, consider visiting another waterfall in Montana and then staying overnight in a nearby yurt.
