Among the inhabitants are grizzly bears, black bears, wolves, lynx, deer, mountain lions, mountain goats, and owls, just to name a few. Though none of the land is permanently protected, no species has gone extinct here.
The 330 (or so) people who call Yaak home enjoy getting together at the Yaak River Tavern & Mercantile.
