Here in Montana, we can all appreciate a nice, relaxing swim in a pool, especially whenever the weather is warm. We also know that nothing tops jumping into a cold, natural swimming hole after a lengthy hike or a long day. One of these great swimming holes is Yaak Falls. To find Yaak Falls in Montana, you’ll have to head to the northwest corner of the state.

The Yaak River is a tributary of the Kootenai River, which runs from southeast British Columbia into Lincoln County.

You'll actually find several spots in this area that are great for swimming, but the most popular swimming hole sits near the Yaak River Falls Campground.

To reach this magical spot, take RT 2 West from Kalispell through Libby and Troy. From Troy, you'll continue west for a few miles until you turn right onto RT 508. The swimming hole is located nearby.
Despite this place's natural scenic beauty and perfect swimming spots, you'll rarely see a big crowd here.

While the locals and the occasional campers and tourists tend to love it, the Yaak is a very remote part of Montana. Deciding to come here takes a real commitment no matter what part of the state you call home. That being said, you'll want to come during the week if you're hoping for solitude. The earlier in the day you come, the better.
There's nothing quite like taking a dip in the Yaak River on a hot day.
