Nevada has some well-known sites like Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire, where tons of tourists go each year to see amazing rock formations and colorful scenery. While they are spectacular and without a doubt worth visiting, there are also a few unbelievable places that few have discovered. I find those kinds of places particularly intriguing. Did you know that there is a sort of miniature natural wonder near Las Vegas that looks a lot like the popular Red Rock Canyon Recreation Area?
Located close to the Las Vegas area of Summerlin, Little Red Rock is a much smaller, and less-visited, version of the famous Red Rock National Park.
The aptly named Little Red Rock is comprised of several red sandstone outcroppings in the desert outside the city and is separate from Red Rock Canyon.
Erosion over the centuries has created beautiful shapes, including stunning arches, canyons, and caves.
One interesting feature that makes this particular area unique is the fact that from much of the area, you can see Las Vegas in the not-too-far-off distance, making an interesting backdrop for this natural wonder.
Throughout the area are found a number of ancient Native American petroglyphs and pictographs, as well as rock shelters, roasting pits, and pieces of pottery belonging to a people that once inhabited the area.
Don’t let the name fool you! While this area is “little” in comparison with the National Park of the same name, it is spread over a fairly wide area which would take days to explore completely.
