Just about every corner of the Jersey Shore has its fans, but I’m partial to Sandy Hook. This barrier spit is one of the northernmost spots along the Jersey Shore, so you won’t have to make the long trip down to the favorite locations, but it extends far into the ocean – so in a way, you’re traveling to the tip of the state without having to visit Cape May! It’s always a beautiful spot with unique attractions – and now it’s a dining destination as well. The Mule Barn Tavern, which just opened in late summer 2023, is a unique restaurant in Sandy Hook that serves great food in an unexpected location. That’s because the restaurant is located in what used to be a historic horse and mule barn – and the restaurant pays tribute to its long history with a modern makeover!
