The haunts at Demon Acres are truly first rate. Let’s go through all four.

There is the haunted house, which they describe as a “horrifying shack where everything and everyone is possessed by demons.” Visitors go behind doors and through hallways and are met with a scary surprise upon every turn!

Updated for 2023 is the haunt known as Jail Break. In it, visitors are thrown onto a bus by manic guards, then handcuffed and taken to what Demon Acres calls “the most notorious jail in the state.” From there, guests are released into the general population—if that’s not bad enough, there is a prison riot going on! This is not one for the faint of heart.

Then there is the Depths of the Dark Forest, an extreme hayride that is simply unforgettable. You board a wagon and head into a forest where you will find demons, witches and all sorts of deadly creatures that want to see you squirm.

The fourth and final amazing haunt at Demon Acres is what they call the Insane Asylum. Guests get locked into the empty cell of a killer, where they have to solve clues and puzzles before the killer gets back to, as the folks at Demon Acres say, “finish you off.”

Demons Acres keeps their tickets very affordable, and even have an ATM on-site. Depths of the Dark Forest is $17, while Jail Break is $14. Demon’s Den runs $15, and a combo goes for only $40. You can call for a special group rate, and there are even private wagons available.

The older building is made by the architecture firm McKim, Mead & White, who are behind quite a few iconic New York City landmarks, chief among them Penn Station and The Morgan Library and Museum.

The new tower is created by the global design firm Perkins Eastman along with the New York-based firm PBDW Architects. It’s an amazing mix of past, present, and future.

The hotel is situated in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood and will feature 153 rooms and suites, whose interiors have been handled by the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio.

The interiors of the rooms will be see Pagoda-style lamps collide with Murano glass chandeliers and twinkling ceiling lights. It’s a beautiful and unique merging of design sensibilities, and it just works.

A few of the rooms will even have terraces, but all will have amazing views. The tower has a penthouse that looks over Madison Square park and the Empire State Building, while another comes with a Japanese garden and soaking tub, whose views look out to Fifth Avenue.

Then there’s the hotel’s in-house restaurant, which comes care of the legendary chef Andrew Carmellini and will, again, combine the best of classic New York food with more contemporary tastes.

Like a unique fairy tail kingdom in upstate New York, the Bonnie Castle Greens still stand proud over Alexandria Bay.

However, a closer look reveals that this massive 32-hole mini-golf course is far from what it used to be. In fact, it's fallen into disrepair.

Covering 38 acres and multiple buildings, the golf course has been abandoned for years, and the wear and tear can be seen everywhere.

In many places, it looks like the grounds have been abandoned in a hurry. Hundreds of golf clubs can be found on the wall – but the course isn't in any shape to shoot a round.

The entire area has a whimsical, nautical vibe to it, and many of the larger structures are still intact, if a little run down.

The most striking spot on the grounds is the rustic cottage, which still feels like it stepped out of a fairy tale today.

Inside the rotunda, it's a very different story, as this charming cottage is now a run-down storage spot.

The further you head away from the center of the course, the more this unique area starts to feel like a truly abandoned location.

This is a very run-down area, and while the overall Alexandria Bay area is still thriving, this once-colorful golf course is a shadow of its former self.

Despite this, there are still little pockets of magic and beauty around the Bonnie Castle Greens mini-golf course, especially at sunset. No doubt, many locals and visitors dream of someone coming in to restore this area to its former glory.

Haunted House of Hamburgers was created out of a love for both Halloween and great burgers. They serve amazing hamburgers, along with delicious apps, salads, soups and a whole lot more.

Awald Farms calls itself the Giant Pumpkin Patch. They aren’t lying! The patch is home to over 900 “giant pumpkins,” some of which are almost 200 pounds! Visitors can select from one of the huge varieties, or more “regular-style” pumpkins.

Awald Farms is celebrating 40 years of bringing some of the biggest and best pumpkins to New York State. There is no better year to pay the farm a visit and take part in the celebration.

Nearby W&J features a ton of great activities for the whole family. There’s a game tent, there’s hay rides, there’s a corn cannon, and there’s even a giant maze.

W&J Awald farms is open daily, seven days a week, 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., all the way until October 31st.

Meeder’s was started in 1960 by Andy Meeder, who was the original owner of the restaurant. The story goes like this: Meeder attended an auction at a Sunoco gas station, where he only intended to buy a humble washing machine. However, he went home the owner of the entire station!

At first, Meeder’s sold milk and maple syrup products that Meeder sourced from his own farm, and also burgers, fries and cherry Cokes. But then the restaurant grew. At one point, he even set up a grocery store in the building.

In 1984, though, Meeder passed away. It was at that point that his daughter and son-in-law, Millie and Gladyn, took over the establishment. The two changed it around a bit: there is no longer a small dining room at Meeder’s, and there is no longer a grocery store.

In 1990, the duo’s son and daughter-in-law took over the restaurant and later built a banquet room for bigger gatherings, like showers, wedding parties, and memorials. Ownership changed again in 2016. New owners Sheila and Bob Bentley have added plenty of new menu items, but the great spirit of Meeder’s remains unchanged.

The new menu bridges the gap between generational tastes—for fans of classic American comfort food, there’s something for everyone to love at Meeder’s.

For those living in New York State, the Farmers’ Almanac predicts plenty of snowstorms, sleet, ice and rain.

They also predict that, during the second week of February, an East Coast storm will lead to a good amount of snowfall, cold rain and cold temperatures around the state.

The punishment doesn’t stop in February, though. The Farmers’ Almanac says that a fully separate East Coast storm will hit during the first week of March, bringing with it a “wintery mess” throughout the region—and that includes New York.

They also predict that March could “go out like a lion,” which is to say the stormy conditions and temperature swings might last throughout that entire month.

Every year since 1818, Farmers’ Almanac have been consulting a “time-tested” weather formula to bring readers these predictions.

For the sake of New Yorkers, let’s hope that the weather ends up being a bit more mild than they say it will be!

The Spooky Safari is a great way to bust into the Halloween spirit—weeks before Halloween itself.

At the safari, guests can avail themselves of all of the great rare wildlife that makes Hawk Creek Wildlife Center a special place, all year round. Don’t forget to bring along a camera to capture all the great wildlife on view.

The Letchworth Arts & Crafts Show & Sale positions itself as one of the nation’s top contemporary arts festivals, and showcases the work of more than 250 artists. It’s a juried show, and it’s all outdoors. The village of Perry, New York is only minutes from Letchworth State Park, which is where the show gets its name.

The stated goal of the festival is to show and sell creative, unique works of art that “reflect excellence in design, quality and technique.” The event organizers want to create a singular show that’s fun and fulfilling for both artists and fairgoers.

Public admission to the event is completely free and includes more than just art—there’s live music and demonstrations, and a Kid’s Zone with entertainment. Feeling hungry? The fair has over 12 local food vendors. Parking is a reasonable $10; included with that price is the cost of a shuttle.

To apply to show in the event, you need to send over five images, including an outdoor booth photo with your work displayed clearly. The images should represent the work you will be exhibiting at the fair, and the application fee is only $35.

Fair categories include culinary, decorative painting, fiber and leather, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, ceramics, wood and a whole lot more. There is really something for everyone at this fair!

Specific winners of the competition even receive cash rewards.
