Have you ever felt like dressing up like a bee and parading down the Main Street of a small town? If so, the 9th annual Narrowsburg Honey Bee Fest is the event of your dreams. The festival is a celebration of all things honey bee. It also provides quite a bit of education as to why the pollinating insect is important to this country, and to nature as a whole. It might just be the most fun small town festival in New York. If you want to learn more about this festival, keep reading below!
This year, the 9th annual iteration of the Honey Bee Festival takes place on Saturday, September 23rd.
The festival includes local and regional vendors selling a range of bee-related items, which include local honey, beeswax, candles, honey-based food, bee clothing, pollinator plants and natural honey.
Then there is the main event: the Main Street parade. There's live music and all sorts of bee-related antics. Put it this way: there will no shortage of black-and-yellow at this parade!
There is even a bee-costume dressing contest, which features a trilogy of categories: the cutest costume, the most creative costume and what the festival calls “the bee fashionista.”
More than anything, though, this festival takes pride in providing education about the importance of the honey bee within local New York ecology. If you take anything from the fun and festivities, organizers hope you choose to stop using chemicals in your gardens and actively start planting pollinator plants.
For a fun and educational experience you won’t forget anytime soon, make a bee-line to Narrowsburg this September! While you are in the Catskills area, you might want to consider eating at Selena’s, a rustic old-school diner in Haines Falls. If you are looking for some bee-bq, you should check out Big Kev’s BBQ, which is located in Swan Lake. And, if you need a place to stay, we recommend Moonshadow Inn, which is less than five miles from the town’s center.
