Under Brown Mountain Lights the Beast of Blandenboro wanders this magical land where lighthouses shine on kingdoms only accessible by ferries. A Lost Colony of legends and pirates revealed in historical sites and majestic mountains with views that make us weep. The home of handmade sculptures and scrumptious cuisine. North Carolina leaves this long-time writer and artist breathless with endless surprises, including the unlikely warmth a winter walk on the beach can bring.
For two days of cultural enrichment and just some down-home fun, visit this small-town harvest festival in North Carolina. Halifax County Harvest Days takes place on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 21, 2023, in the historic town of Halifax. Since 1992, this celebration has promoted Southern hospitality, heritage, and agrarian culture in the county. Admission to this festival is free, inviting you into the area’s rich and interesting past.
Plan on attending one of the best festivals in the state, showcasing how we used to live.
And yes, those people on the left are jumping in cotton. What a terrific way to learn about the area's agriculture as North Carolina is the seventh-largest producer of cotton in the country.
And don't forget to visit the sweet, friendly farm animals.
And while you’re there, visit one of the oldest places you can possibly go in North Carolina. It’s just down the road where we’ll pass The Hen & The Hog, a delicious restaurant in a beautifully renovated building. Our favorite lunchtime order is the chicken salad plate.
