After all, Theodore Roosevelt National Park literally got its name from the fact that when President Teddy Roosevelt first visited the area, he was absolutely transfixed. He fell in love with it immediately and bought a ranch that is now part of the park.
It is so immensely vast that, if you want to explore it all, I recommend no less than two days' time.

The park is home to all sorts of amazing things to do, see, and experience - including 33 amazing hiking trails like the world-famous Caprock Coulee Loop Trail, which is just under four-and-a-half miles long and a perfect introduction to the wonders contained here. Personally, I would spend the first day exploring the trails and enjoying the awesome scenic drives within the park.

Other than Petrified Forest, must-see features of this awesome North Dakota National Park include incredible overlooks, like the famed Painted Canyon Overlook, other geological wonders like the Cannonball Concretions (as well as general natural wonders like an absolutely incredible dark sky at night, perfect for stargazing).
The town of Medora - which is nestled inside the park and hosts the cabin you'll stay at should you choose to - is a delight, too, with plenty MORE to do and see. Y'know... you might want to take more than a weekend, but that's me.

If the cabin isn't quite your thing, you might want to stay at the old Rough Riders Hotel, which is the oldest hotel in the state and used to be a haunt of Teddy Roosevelt himself.
