To identify the top coffee cities, WalletHub conducted a comprehensive analysis of the 100 largest cities, considering a dozen key factors that gauge the coffee enthusiast's experience.
San Francisco topped this list as the best coffee city in the United States. Several other Northern California cities made the list! Oakland came in at 8, Sacramento came in at 19, and Fremont at 25.
The WalletHub data also revealed some other interesting coffee facts. They collected data about the cost of a bag of coffee. Several Northern California cities made the “most expensive” list of cities.
With San Francisco coming in first as the most expensive Northern California city to purchase a bag of coffee, followed by Fremont, Stockton, and then Oakland. They also collected data about the average cost of a cappuccino, and no Northern California cities made the list of the most or least expensive.

So, what are the must-visit coffee shops in San Francisco?

Philz Coffee began in San Francisco and has 13 locations in San Francisco alone, plus many more throughout California. They specialized in customized, pour-over coffees.
Reveille Coffee started as a coffee truck located in Jackson Square in San Francisco, and today they have many cafes throughout the Bay Area. Stop by their cafe on Chestnut Street to enjoy a coffee on their outdoor patio.
