The restaurant was founded by Greg Cook in 1973. It became known for its wine selection and live local music.
Today, people flock to Friar Tuck’s for special occasion dinners, or to enjoy the delicious food and live music.

Some menu favorites include fondue, scallops, and you can’t go wrong with their rib eye. They also have a mouth-watering brunch menu.
If you’re only going to be in town for a short while, consider going to their Happy Hour.

Taking place Monday through Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m., their Happy Hour menu has enough food items to make it well worth your while. They even have their famous fondue on the Happy Hour menu!
Then, in the early ‘80s, Greg Cook married Rona, and they expanded the restaurant, adding a full liquor license, steak, fresh seafood, and more.

In 2002, a devastating fire destroyed the building, but it was rebuilt in just 14 months. The rebuild features a beautiful mahogany bar, a “Sherwood Forest”-themed dining room, and ambient lighting.
Since 2019, the Paige family has owned and operated the restaurant.

They continue to carry on the restaurant’s traditions, including live music and friendly service.

The original building that housed Friar Tuck’s Restaurant was built around 1860. After the 2002 fire, it was built using some of the bricks from the original structure. The building looks just as historic as the other charming buildings in downtown Nevada City.
