I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Treehouses are all the rage, and really, what’s not to love? For folks who enjoy immersing themselves in the Great Outdoors, treehouses offer a unique alternative to camping that quite literally takes the entire experience to new heights. Ohio is home to some standout treehouses, but did you know that the Buckeye State also lays claim to the only public treehouse village in the country? Part of the Toledo Metroparks, the Cannaley Treehouse Village is the only one of its kind in the country, making for a wholly memorable experience that truly is one-of-a-kind.
There's something about trees that's simultaneously grounding and aspirational. There's a wisdom and physicality to trees that's undeniably inspiring. John Muir knew this, and today, millions of people visit public parks and forests to interact with, and immerse themselves in, forests filled with trees.
Outdoor enthusiasts with a thrill-seeking side sometimes take the entire experience to (ahem) new heights by climbing, rappelling, and zip lining through the trees. I have a son who has yet to meet a tree he won't climb; for his eighth birthday, my dad and husband actually built him a treehouse in our backyard!
Because really, the only thing more magical than a forest filled with trees, is a forest filled with trees at night. And while you can certainly immerse yourself in this scene at any of Ohio's numerous amazing campgrounds, there is another accommodation option that's truly a bucket-list must.
Treehouse Village includes one six-person, one ADA six-person, one ADA four-person and two-person treehouses plus three raised platforms attached to trees for tent and hammock camping.
A happy middle ground between camping and cabins (think "glamping" in the trees!), the treehouses are equipped with electricity, heat, and air conditioning. Because of this, treehouses are available to rent all year long -- but reservations fill up fast, so you'll want to book your treehouse ASAP.
(Please note: restrooms and shower facilities are nearby.)

Perfect for families, some of the treehouses have features like rope ladders, hammocks, and slides, which makes for such a fun experience for kids! A communal fire pit is another on-site feature that's the epitome of good, old-fashioned camping fun.
Of course, the treehouse village is also just a stone's throw from some of Toledo's most beautiful parks, trails, and natural areas, making these treehouses the perfect "base camp" for your adventures...
Did you know about this Ohio treehouse village? What a cool and unique claim to fame! For more information on the Cannaley Treehouse Village, including rental rates and reservation information, visit the Toledo Metroparks website. And while many amenities are provided in treehouses, renters are asked to bring along your own bedding and towels.
Toledo is quite the underrated town. In addition to this superlative treehouse village, Toledo, Ohio, is also home to the largest mural in the country!
