I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Close your eyes and point to a map of Ohio, and chances are, you’ve landed on someplace great. Whether it’s a bustling big city, charming small town, or mid-sized gem, the Buckeye State is a wonderfully diverse patchwork quilt that’s the true sum of its parts. Today’s adventure brings us to the beguiling little “square” of Milan, Ohio. Historic and enchanting, this Ohio community is a place that most certainly belongs on your radar.
Snuggled in Ohio's beautiful Erie and Huron Counties, Milan is a charming and historic village that's home to around 1,300 residents.
Milan is a wholesome slice of Americana; a kind of "Stars Hollow" in the Buckeye State. The town square anchors the village, hosting seasonal events and family-friendly activities throughout the year.
The Melon Festival is perhaps Milan's best-known festival. This end-of-summer fete features delicious melon and cantaloupe ice cream, fun rides, and unique vendors!
Summer in Milan also means classic cars, with the Cruisin' on the Square show running every Tuesday from May - September. If you're into classic cars, you simply must check out this seasonal show!
Vintage vehicles aside, strolling through town feels like a trip back in time, too, with historic buildings housing longstanding local businesses, shops, and restaurants. Milan Wine Post, for example, is a quaint wine shop and bar located on the historic Town Square and it's a favorite for foodies and oenophiles alike.
Those seeking a classic diner experience will find it at The Wonder Bar in Milan, a longstanding local favorite known for its ever-rotating array of delicious burgers.
Of course, it's impossible to talk about Milan without including Thomas Edison. As alluded to earlier, one of America’s most important inventors was born in Milan, Ohio, in 1847. The Village of Milan is quite proud to be the birthplace of invention and you’ll see it represented all over town, from the statues at Town Hall and village square, to the names of shops, restaurants, and streets. Whether you're a history buff or not, a visit to the Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum is a must when in Milan, Ohio.
Edison Park is another nod to the famous inventor, and with shelters and playgrounds, it's an excellent place to enjoy a picnic lunch while taking in the lovely landscape of this northern Ohio village.
Have you had the pleasure of visiting Milan, Ohio? This tiny-but-mighty community of 1,300 is a charming locale you’re sure to fall in love with! And if you’re looking to stay in an equally historic and charming place in Milan, this 1870 Victorian Inn is calling your name!
