Pennsylvania’s rich history means we have plenty of opportunities to peek into the past. Because there are so many historic sites throughout the state, we probably haven’t heard of them all. Did you know, for example, that one of the oldest buildings in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, is also one of the oldest log cabins in the United States? Yep, and you can even visit.

A narrow road will lead you back through the pages of time and straight to Lower Swedish Cabin, one of the oldest remaining Swedish-built log cabins in the United States.

While an exact date isn't known, it is believed this historic log cabin was built by Swedish settlers between 1640 and 1650.

The log cabin remained a private home for centuries, until the 1930s, when Upper Darby Township took ownership of it.

The historic log cabin was built from local trees and even starred in several movies when, in the early 1900s, filmmaker Siegmund Lubin came to the area.

Unfortunately, during the mid-20th century, the cabin fell into disrepair and was vandalized. While it earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, it wasn't restored until seven years later.

Today, the house generally welcomes visitors for tours on Sundays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tours are held from April through October.
