The Olde English District offers some lesser-known adventures, with seven counties full of fun things to do, and we’ve found the best cabin rental in Monticello, South Carolina for you to stay in as you explore this corner of the state.
We’re going to begin with an overview of a few of the types of experiences available in the Olde English District. There are many throughout each of the counties, including Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and York. So you may wish to further explore for lots of additional options.
Christy Buchanan’s She Garden Roadside Attraction — Winnsboro
Those who love and/or appreciate art and creativity will adore this whimsical roadside attraction, located at the artist’s studio and gallery called “The Painted Picket.” She says the She Garden is full of everything that makes you happy, and she has even named her car, “Happy.” Wait until you see her car in this video tour of the garden and her studio/gallery:
While in Winnsboro, you may also want to visit the South Carolina Train Museum for a scenic train ride and BBQ dinner!
Learn or practice wake-boarding, one of the world’s fastest growing extreme sports at SouthTown Wake Park, which also has an aqua park with other types of water fun for those not into wake-boarding or not yet ready to try it. Single sessions and combo passes are available depending on how much you want to do while here. Have dinner with a gorgeous view at the unique Pump House restaurant.
The equine industry came to Camden in the early 1900s when wealthy Northerners wintered there. General admission into this unique museum is free, with donations accepted, to explore exhibits and displays conveying the rich history of the sport of steeplechasing. This is a form of horse racing that is run at distances between two and four miles where horses are also required to jump over fences placed along the course. Tours are also available by appointment for a fee for non-members.
Stop by Blackmon’s Little Midget Family Drive-In for a famous burger or hotdog while in Camden. This eatery has been here since 1958 and is popular among the locals, with a reputation for simple, but delicious food.
