Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
If you’re on the never-ending search for the best places to stay in South Dakota, you’re in luck: We went ahead and found a gorgeous little escape where you can hang back, relax, and soak up all the good vibes you can while enjoying some peace and quiet. Come out to beautiful Hamlin County, South Dakota, and check out some of its best attractions; from small towns to excellent eateries and beyond, this getaway is perfect for anyone looking to leave the real world behind for a while (hint: it’s a wonderful vacation home rental near Lake Poinsett). Check it out!
Hamlin County is a gorgeous little slice of paradise in east-central South Dakota, and it's a hidden gem for sure!
Upon first glance, it's quiet - idyllic, even. But you'll have plenty of things to do if you know where to look. I strongly recommend a jaunt around to explore the best small towns in the area, like Watertown, South Dakota.
Watertown could make an amazing day trip in and of itself: It's got plenty to do, much to see, and all sorts of great places to grab a bite along the way.
We like Dempsey's Brewery Pub & Restaurant. There's a reason it's the number one spot for grabbing food around here - it's fantastic, and it's got something for just about everyone.

I, personally, am a fan of the pizza - but you can get everything from French dip to sandwiches, sides, brews, and more.
Dempsey's Brewery Restaurant & Pub, 127 N Broadway, Watertown, SD 57201, USA
It's a wonderful little home away from home, and I suspect it'll keep you coming back out to this little corner of the state more often. To book your stay, be sure to check out the official VRBO listing - and do so well in advance, because this spot books up quickly!
Over the coming days, you'll find there are many other fun things to do and see out here, peppered all over the county countryside.
Lake Poinsett is beautiful, and it's not even the only lake in the area! You'll also want to pay a visit to sparkling Lake Kampeska, which is pretty close to Watertown.
Finally, I also suggest visiting one of the crown jewels of Watertown.
Bramble Park Zoo, 800 10th St NW, Watertown, SD 57201, USA
The Bramble Park Zoo is a highlight of any visit to the area. Did you know that the largest reptile zoo in the United States is right here? It's true - so I hope you like reptiles!
As I mentioned, if you plan on booking a stay at this amazing lakefront vacation home in South Dakota, you’ll want to visit its VRBO listing and book in advance.
