Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
If there’s one thing I’m obsessed with, it’s small towns. Turns out, almost every town in South Dakota is a small one – even our “big” cities! Take the delightful little town of Brandon, for example, a small town in South Dakota that’s got all the fun of Sioux Falls without the bigger-city vibe. It’s just five miles east of the Falls, so you have access to all the cool stuff to do there, as well! Check out this adorable little town, and plan an adventure ASAP:
Brandon, South Dakota has a population of just over 11,000 - making it a small town by most standards, but a city by ours.
It's astonishingly beautiful, and we're pretty lucky that it's so close! It makes for an excellent day trip on its own, though you could always make it brief if you need to.

If you liked Palisades State Park, you'll love Arrowhead Park, which is technically in Sioux Falls, but... you know.
Lovers of nature will also appreciate an adventure at the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum, which is a special kind of stunning. It's home to wetlands, gardens, and all sorts of magic, so definitely give it a visit!
Should you get hungry, well, have I got the recommendation for you.
The Brandon Steakhouse & Lounge serves up some of the best steaks in the world, if I do say so myself. The filet mignon is to die for, and it'll be served to you perfectly prepared. I'm also hopelessly obsessed with the ribeye, but that's me.
You'll find a hearty selection of drinks and libations, too.
Should you want to stay the night (you should), you'll find a number of hotels in Brandon - or in Sioux Falls just five miles away, should you need more options.
Other places I recommend paying a visit to include the Wilde Prairie Winery, which is easily one of the best in South Dakota.
Overall, this cute little town has so many hidden gems and such that you could spend an awful long time exploring it all... but a weekend is a good start!
