I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and I love photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world! Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream.
The Grand Canyon State is home to three separate wine regions: Willcox, Sonoita/Elgin, and the Verde Valley. Today’s trip will take you to the Verde Valley wine region for a hike and wine tasting in Arizona. If you’re like me, you enjoy a good day trip and Cornville happens to be a great day trip, or even weekend getaway, destination. Ready to get some exercise before trying some award-winning wine at a local vineyard?
Located in Yavapai County close to Sedona and Oak Creek is the census-designated community of Cornville. Located in the heart of the Verde Valley wine region, there's a plethora of natural beauty to explore. So, let's start our adventure with a hike around Oak Creek!
This serene trail is ideal for birdwatching and easy enough for kids to complete. Dogs are also allowed but must remain on a leash. Along the way, you'll encounter views of Oak Creek, a tributary of the Verde River. Portions of this preserve are located on both sides of Oak Creek.
Bubbling Pond Preserve is also home to the Page Springs Fish Hatchery, a large cold-water fish production facility, as well as four small "marsh ponds" where you'll see a variety of bird species.
Once your hike is complete, it's time to head to the winery!
Less than a mile from your hiking destination at Bubbling Ponds is where you'll go wine tasting. Welcome to Javelina Leap Vineyard, Winery & Bistro, an award-winning, family-owned winery in the heart of Verde Valley.
Enjoy your time here as you sit back, relax, and sample one of the vineyard's Tasting Flights. You'll have your choice of five of the current Javelina Leap wines in the large wine tasting room.
To add to your wine-tasting experience, how about ordering a Charcuterie Graze Box? Perfect for two, this box includes charcuterie meats as well as pickled veggies, a selection of fine cheeses, dried fruit, roasted nuts, artisan bread and crackers, spicy honey, and a fruit jam spread. Gluten-free options are also available.
So, how does this hike and wine tasting in Arizona adventure sound to you? If you’d like to make a weekend getaway of it, book a stay at the Chic Wine Country Hideaway in Cornville. Best of all, this place has a private hot tub!
