If you love a bright night sky filled with stars like me, Utah is the place to be. The Beehive State is home to the highest concentration of dark sky parks in the entire world. Here, you can capture incredible sky shows at places like Antelope Island State Park, Goblin Valley State Park, and all five of Utah’s national parks. But, our state now has a new place to enjoy a dark sky — Under Canvas Lake Powell – Grand Staircase. In fact, this luxury glampground in Utah just became the first lodging to receive International DarkSky certification.
Located in Big Water, Utah, not far from both Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and Lake Powell, this luxury glampground is a beautiful place to stay if you want to stay outdoors, yet enjoy the many comforts of home.
This award-winning glampground is unique in so many ways. It is located on the Canyon Rim Plateau, features its own on-site slot canyon, and the views outside of each glamping tent are stunning.
Under Canvas Lake Powell – Grand Staircase is just one of several Under Canvas glampgrounds throughout the country with several located in Utah including Under Canvas Zion, Under Canvas Bryce Canyon, and Under Canvas Moab.

And while there is plenty to do during the day at Under Canvas Lake Powell – Grand Staircase, you won’t want to go to bed early. This glampground is the first to receive International DarkSky certification.
Under Canvas has worked to ensure every detail is met to receive the certification and to improve the sky quality in the area including all on-site approved lighting.
It has taken several years for the glampground to receive certification as they’ve made several changes to ensure every requirement is met. It’s the perfect place to sit on your porch, stare at the night sky, and simply relax. It’s a little slice of heaven.
