Utah’s small towns are packed with history. From pioneer history to railroad history, you can find it all tucked away in the charming towns that dot the state. While there are many of these historic communities we recommend you visit, none is more enchanting, historic, and delightful than Ephraim. Situated in Sanpete County, just north of Manti, is this town with so much to offer and things to do, it’s perfect for a visit.
Ephraim is a small town where approximately 6,000 people reside. It is actually the largest town in Sanpete County and is best known as the home of Snow College.
Unfortunately, Behunin had troubles with the Native Americans in the area, causing him to abandon his home. When he returned several months later, Behunin discovered many other families and homes in the area. Together, they built a fort and called it Fort Ephraim.

Eventually, more people moved to the area, including those from all different cultures. The settlement was even nicknamed “Little Denmark” because of the diverse people who lived there.
Over time, "Fort" was dropped from the name, and the town become known as Ephraim.
Today, many people come to Ephraim to visit the college. Snow College plays a critical role in the town and it is where nearly 6,000 students receive their education.
But, the college isn’t the only place to visit in Ephraim. The historical Great Basin Station is one such location that deserves your time. This is a historical landmark and is an old, yet renovated U.S. Forest Service research facility.
This beautiful scenic drive is approximately 45 miles and takes you from Ephraim to Orangeville. This drive isn’t for the faint of heart as you’ll encounter dirt roads with steep climbs. There are also many sharp turns and high elevations, but the views are extraordinary.
If you are looking for something a little less intense, how about a hike? You can hike to the letter “S” on the hill that overlooks Ephraim and the Snow College campus.
This is a 1.4-mile out-and-back hike that does have several inclines you must conquer but it’s not too difficult. From the top, the views are pretty mesmerizing. You can learn more about this hike on AllTrails.

And when you get hungry in this town, make sure you stop by Roy’s Pizza.
This is a family-owned pizza place located in a historic building on Main Street. This restaurant is often filled with locals who not only love the food but the vibe of this place as well. Just make sure you grab some mozzarella breadsticks to pair with your pizza — you won’t regret my suggestion!
