I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
If you live in Arkansas, chances are, you’ve explored the great outdoors. After all, the state is an expansive playground for outdoor enthusiasts who love endless adventure. Of course, the expert outdoorsman enjoys venturing on those hiking trails that are challenging as well as fun. However, for some of us who are novice hikers, we prefer to take it easy when we explore the Natural State. Luckily, there are lots of hiking trails for beginners in Arkansas that are worth the trek. Grab your hiking boots, and let’s hike these easy mountain trails that have the greatest rewards.
At 3 miles long, this loop trail in Hot Springs National Park will take about 90 minutes to complete. Begin the trail at the Gulpha Gorge Campground, and from there, expect some elevation gain that level out within the first mile. If you're a rookie hiker, have no worries, this trail is well worth the trek as it leads to one of the best lookout towers and overlooks in Arkansas. You'll want to spend some time marveling at all the breathtaking beauty.
Tucked inside the Ozarks in the town of Jasper you'll find Round Top Mountain trailhead. This 3.5-mile loop trail follows the bluff line of the mountain and is considered moderate with an elevation gain of 500 feet. Nature lovers will be delighted by the panoramic vistas of the area as well as the stunning rock formations. History buffs will be interested in the remains of a Bomber plane that crashed in the mountain in 1948. In my opinion, this scenic and historical hike belongs on your bucket list.
As one of the most scenic trails in Arkansas, White Rock Rim Trail features lots of spots to pause and marvel at the views. At only 2.1-miles, this trail is brimming with endless adventure. Featuring a scenic overlook, stream crossings, large boulders, rock outcroppings, and more, you'll be basking in all that the Ozarks has to offer. This easy trail is both dog and kid friendly, so bring the entire family along.
There's no doubt that Petit Jean is one of the best state parks in Arkansas, so it's no surprise that it has one of the best hiking trails in the state. The Bear Cave Trail is a 1-mile out-and-back that features massive sandstone boulders. Be prepared to spend your time looking up and marveling at the incredible formations. As the name suggests, expect to see a cool cave on this mountain hike. Moreover, the mind-blowing rock formations create a series of above ground passageways that are a sight to behold.
Of course, no mountain hike in Arkansas would be complete without a waterfall and Forked Mountain Falls doesn’t' disappoint. Featuring two hiking trails: the first takes you up the unique mountain to enjoy the panoramic vistas and the second traverses at the base of the mountain revealing some cool waterfalls. We suggest that you hike both trails, but no matter which trail you select, the rewards will be well worth the trek.
