McAdenville North Carolina is a quaint little town located just 16 miles east of Charlotte and has been recognized nationally as one of the best Christmas Towns to visit during the holiday season. In fact, McAdenville is nicknamed Christmas Town U.S.A. and has made national headlines all over the U.S. with its fantastic holiday light show.
McAdenville is a tiny little town in Gaston County, N.C. with a population of approximately 665 people.
Although small, McAdenville makes a BIG impact each year right around Christmas time.
Each December McAdenville is transformed into Christmas Town U.S.A. and every inch of the town is covered in holiday lights and decorations.
The tradition began in 1956 when Pharr Yarns, the city's largest employer at the time, would lead the charge in decorating all the public trees and storefronts with lights in December. Since then, the residents of the town have kept up the tradition making McAdenville one of the most brightly lit towns during the holiday season.
McAdenville's lights have become a huge draw for many tourists on the East Coast and even across the United States.
Last year more than 600,000 people visited McAdenville to see the 400 lit trees in the town and 200 Christmas wreaths on display. There is never a charge to see the city's lights and many Charlotte locals make it tradition to hop in the car and drive up to McAdenville each December.
Each house in McAdenville offers its own unique decorations.
Everything from lights, wreaths, lit up angels, nativity scenes and Santa Clauses fill the lawns of the houses all lined up in perfect little rows on the neighborhood streets.
Pack a few to-go-cups of hot chocolate to sip on as you cruise down the city streets checking out the best holiday decor.
And feel free to get out of your car and walk around on foot for a closer look. Kids love visiting McAdenville and it makes a great Christmas tradition.
The homes are decorated inside and out...
...and residents truly take pride in ensuring their home exhibits exuberant holiday cheer.
When it snows, the town is even more beautiful as the lights twinkle and glitter against the snow's white background.
Kids in yards will be playing, creating the perfect holiday scene.
Every tree in the town gets lights in December...
...even the tallest ones that may be a challenge.
And it's not uncommon to see lit up cars driving down the streets of McAdenville.
After all, it is Christmas Town U.S.A.
