Not only are these towns charming, but they are also historic and enchanting, which makes for the perfect getaway. That’s especially true for the tiny town of Yellville. It’s surrounded by the natural beauty of the Ozarks as well as many historical sites that are stitched into the fabric of our great state. In north central Arkansas, just 30 miles away from the Missouri border, you'll find the quaint small town of Yellville.
With only 1200 residents, surrounded by incredible architecture, natural Ozark beauty, and more, it's the quintessential small town In Arkansas.
Originally inhabited by Native Americans, Yellville was known as Shawneetown. Later, in 1855, the town was established and named after Archibald Yell, Arkansas' second governor.
The walkable downtown square features commercial buildings with beautiful architecture occupied by specialty shops, antique stores, local businesses, and more. The square also hosts various music events and festivals throughout the year.

As the crown jewel of the town, Crooked Creek runs directly through Yellville, and it’s a haven for recreational activities.
Locals and visitors alike can enjoy fishing, floating, swimming, and more on the creek. Anglers will especially be impressed as the stream is known for its abundance of smallmouth bass.
Due to the wars in the late 19th and early 20th century, there was a demand for zinc, which resulted in a boom in the zinc mining industry.
The discovery of zinc in Rush Mountain near Yellville played a significant role in Arkansas' zinc mining history. A community flourished around the mining boom, but due to industry decline, Rush is now a ghost town as well as a historical site that you should visit.
