There’s a certain sort of magic with pumpkins, isn’t there? From Cinderella’s iconic pumpkin carriage to the familiar jack-o’-lantern, there’s something about this orange gourd that captures the imagination… and the essence of the season. If you’re searching for a special fall experience near you, a trip to the best pumpkin patches in Cleveland may be in order! These seven destinations, listed in no particular order, are bound to make your season magical. (Magicfall…? Come on, that’s a gourd pun, and you know it!)
1. Pickering Hill Farms, 35669 Detroit Rd, Avon, OH, 44011
Pumpkins come in a wide variety of shapes and colors, and that's especially evident at the quaint and charming Pickering Hill Farms in Avon, Ohio. This 75-acre family-owned farm operates from June to Halloween every year, and their pumpkin selection especially celebrates the spookier half of the season. You can select from their pre-arranged pumpkins, or you can take advantage of the super fun wagon rides out to the pick-your-own field. There's something nostalgic about this spot, and that's likely due to the history at this site. It has been farmed since the 1800s, and a market has kept the public returning to the spot since the 1930s.
Tucked away in quaint Medina County, Richardson Farms is a lovely destination. This lovely family-owned farm comes with six generations of expertise, plus a slew of crops grown on-site. In the fall, their pumpkin patch is a great place to stock up on beautiful, unusual, and unique pumpkins... as the cute pup pictured above demonstrates! Growing up, I had family just down the street... this is an adorable, quaint, and peaceful section of Northeast Ohio that offers reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life. Plus, if you follow Route 42 northeast, you'll end up in Historic Medina, which is full of awesome autumnal attractions. Richardson Farms makes an excellent weekend trip as a result, and their greenhouses are easy to spot from the road... and you never know what's awaiting you in their greenhouses!
3. Red Wagon Farm, 16081 E River Rd, Columbia Station, OH, 44028
To myself and many other fruit-loving Clevelanders, Red Wagon Farm is perhaps best known for its pick-your-own berries. However, this Lorain County farm is boppin' all harvest long... especially once autumn rolls around! Nowadays, there's even a brewery on-site to complete your experience. However, the pumpkins truly take center stage during their annual Pumpkin Festival. This fun celebration includes wagon rides, a five-acre corn maze, snacks, and so much more. Swing by to pick out the perfect pumpkin for your collection!
Seville is such a charming small town, and it's one I deeply adore. Quaint, sleepy, and rich in local lore, there's more to this community than meets the eye. Its petite downtown features several local businesses, and the rolling hills and wide open landscapes make for perfect leaf-peeping. Geig's Orchard is also an excellent fall destination in southern Medina County, and although it is perhaps best known for its apples, its pumpkin selection is excellent. With four generations of family-owned expertise, it's no wonder locals love this spot. Be sure to stock up on cider while you're visiting, and don't forget... it's part of the Medina County Fall Foliage Tour!
For as long as I can remember, trips out to Hinckley Reservation's parks like Worden's Ledges always ended with a visit to Hillside Orchard & Farm Market. The experiences simply pair well together, especially in the fall! While Hinckley is only barely rural, being against the border of Brunswick and criss-crossed by State Route 303, there's oodles of forested landscape here. In the fall, the leaves are especially stunning, especially when framing the rocky landscape. Hillside Orchard is open from April to roughly Christmas, and it seems like there's always something special in stock. From preserves to fresh produce, you can find the delicious flavors, aromas, and colors of fall here.
6. Rockin 'R Ranch, 19066 E River Rd, Columbia Station, OH, 44028
Spooky Ranch at Rockin R Ranch, 19066 E River Rd, Columbia Station, OH 44028, USA
If you are looking for fall family fun near Cleveland, you have to check out Old West Pumpkin Fest at Rockin 'R Ranch! This family-friendly fall destination in Columbia Station, Ohio is oodles of fun, complete with a friendly farm animals, play areas, face painting, hayrides to the pumpkin patch, and so much more. Claim and paint a pumpkin with the kids, enjoy live stage shows, and soak up the countryside vibes in this quaint locale. If spooky season is your thing, you'll want to hang around once the sun goes down. The pumpkin-themed celebration becomes Spooky Ranch, which has a haunted hayride, a haunted barn, and even a 3-D experience. There's something for everyone at the ranch! (For me, it's one of those come for the ducks, stay for the zombies destinations, if you can envision the vibe.)
Ask any local about good farms in the area — you're bound to hear mention of Patterson Fruit Farm! This Geauga County landmark is a must-visit destination in the fall, and their bakery makes the experience even sweeter. While their farm market is open all year-round, autumn is arguably the best time to swing by... the donuts, mums, pumpkins, and apples just naturally ease you into the seasonal spirit! As an added bonus, there are beautiful landscapes awaiting you just around the corner at Squire's Castle and Chapin Forest Reservation.
