There’s something indescribably dreamy about autumn. The rich colors, the indulgent aromas, and the welcome sense of stillness all help make the season magical. Here in Cleveland, fall festivals make each autumn even more nostalgic. With so many fall festivals in Cleveland, it can be hard to narrow down which are the best… but we’re here to help! These epic events in Greater Cleveland are cherished annual traditions:
1. Johnny Appleseed Festival at Mapleside Farms, September 22 through 24
Mapleside Farms, 294 Pearl Rd, Brunswick, OH 44212, USA
There's no better way to kick off a season of fun than with a visit to Mapleside Farms! Its annual Johnny Appleseed Festival truly kicks off the festivities, and Johnny Appleseed himself (alongside a few other familiar faces from American history) will stop by to celebrate. Wind your way through the corn maze, slide down the longest hillside slide in the country, and fill up on apple-themed treats at this epic event. If one event isn't enough to satisfy your sense of adventure, Mapleside celebrates all season long. This is one of my favorite places to watch the sunset in Greater Cleveland, and if you plan your visit accordingly, it might become yours, too!
2. Barberton Mum Festival, September 23 and 24
Lake Anna Park, 615 W Park Ave, Barberton, OH 44203, USA
Colorful and ethereal, the Barberton Mum Festival is one of those delightful small town celebrations that seems like something from a fairy tale. After all, where else can you see 17,000 flowers at no charge?! This stunning event takes place along Lake Anna, so you can expect watery entertainment like water ski shows and canoe races on the schedule. Sculpting, food trucks, chalk art - and more - help to make the event memorable. Oh, and the artfully crafted mum designs are worth a thousand "wows," too! Bring a bit of cash, as the vendors at this event offer keepsakes you won't be able to resist.

3. Festival at Bauman Orchards, September 23 and 30, October 7 and 14
The annual Fall Festival at Bauman Orchards is famous for its apple cider donuts, which are made fresh while you watch. As it is located in Rittman, it's about 50 minutes to an hour from home, but the drive down into the countryside gives you plenty of time to enjoy some leaf-peeping. The festival, which has no entry fee, includes you-pick apples, pony rides, food trucks, and a few freebies like pumpkin painting, a hay maze, and a petting zoo. Stock up on the apple cider... it's truly the star of this seasonal celebration!
4. Pumpkin Pandemonium at Heritage Farms, September 23 through October 22
Heritage Farms, 6050 Riverview Rd, Peninsula, OH 44264, USA
When I was little, field trips to Heritage Farms were one of my most-anticipated fall activities. As an adult, the farm is still every bit as enchanting! The annual Pumpkin Pandemonium event is where the magic happens, and there's no admission fee. If you're interested, you can pay to partake in festivities like hayrides, the corn maze, scavenger hunts, and more. If that's not your vibe, you'll still love the live music, photo opportunities, and endless sea of pumpkins.
5. Harvest Festival at Hale Farm & Village, October 8 and 9
Take the Hale Farm Explorer train ride to the Harvest Festival for an experience you'll never forget! This annual celebration at Hale Farm & Village is an old-fashioned way to embrace the season. Check out the apple cider press, catch up with Johnny Appleseed, pick pumpkins, make apple butter, and learn all about life on the Ohio frontier. This is one of the very best fall festivals near Cleveland, and it's no secret why! Each visit to Hale Farm, which is a working farm with dozens of historic buildings and thousands of antiques, is a trip back in time.
Coe Lake is a dreamy destination, and it sets the atmosphere for Berea's annual Harvest Festival. This free, family-friendly event kicks off Halloween in a magical way. Hay rides, mazes, magic shows, costumes, and trick-or-treating on the trails helps get the kids excited. Grownups, on the other hand, can't resist the allure of watching the Browns game at the beer garden. This event is fun for the whole family, and it's one fall festival you won't want to miss!
