If you’ve been a long-time resident of Columbus, you probably know how to get the most out of living in our beautiful city. You know how to have the most fun, eat the best food, and spend time in the most relaxing spots. Here are 9 things you’ll never a Columbusite doing.
1. Eating at the same place every day.
Same goes for relaxing at the same coffee shop or drinking the same craft beer. Why would you? There are simply too many different places and things to try.
2. Leaving Schmidt’s without at least taking a peak at the giant cream puff.
Chances are you're way too stuffed from the
Autobahn Buffet to even take one bite of that fluffy delicious monstrosity. Nevertheless, deep down you still want one, and you'll sneak a peek at it sitting in the pastry case on your way out.
3. Missing a trip to the Park of Roses during blooming season.
Come May or June, you're heading to the Whetstone Park of Roses. This beautifully landscaped park with thousands of fragrant bright blooms is an incredible gem in the city, and a true Columbusite does not miss a chance to enjoy it.
4. Watching all movies at the AMC.
Don't get me wrong, the AMC is wonderful, but you get a totally different experience at smaller, lesser-known theaters. Luckily, Columbus has many great movie theaters.
5. Skipping an event in one of the historic homes on East Broad Street.
Sometimes you're invited to an event, but you're too busy or not feeling well, and you just wish you could sit it out. We're all been there, but not when said event is taking place in one of East Broad Street's historic mansions. Those homes are beautiful, and when someone hosts a party at one of these venues — you simply must attend.
6. Looking so-so in the Short North.
Going out in the Short North is a joy for so many people of Columbus. It's our time to chill out, catch up with friends, try new things, and shine brightly. We love to look our best in this sparkly part of town.
7. Eating the entire Thurmanator.
You crave it, you order it, you take pictures of it, but you do not eat the whole thing in one go. I repeat — do not eat the Thurmanator in one go! Your belly will thank you for splitting that great burger into two meals.
Do you know just how famous the Thurmanator is?
8. Trusting the weather forecast.
You're planning a party and you check the weather forecast a few days in advance to see whether it should be an outside or inside party. Umm, unlikely, that forecast will probably change several times before the party. You're best off planning an option B no matter what.
9. Trying to drive before a home football game.
Central Columbus comes to a stand-still once game traffic picks up. You know better than to try to drive anywhere until that jam has cleared up. Unless, of course, you're driving to the game, but even then you're better off walking.
