The city of Galveston is home to some of Texas’ most incredible beaches. This popular beach area features 30 miles of beautiful shoreline that attracts both locals and visitors from all over. One of the best things about the beaches within the Galveston area is that they’re all a little different. For example, some of the beaches are family-friendly, whereas others are geared toward a younger crowd.
If you’re planning to visit the Galveston area this summer, the following eight beaches are definitely worth a visit:
Crystal Beach, located in Galveston on Bolivar Peninsula, is a family oriented resort community that's well known for its variety of recreational activities such as camping, beachcombing, fishing, swimming and sunbathing. One of the unique things about this area is that you can drive and park directly onto the beach.
Stewart Beach Park features the perfect family-friendly beach. Stewart Beach is situated where Broadway Avenue meets the Seawall, and it's a great place to spend a summer day. A few of the things offered at this park include a pavilion, a children's playground, concessions, volleyball courts, lifeguards and more.

East Beach is the largest beach in Galveston. It's home to a pavilion, boardwalk, concessions, etc. What makes this beach one of the most popular beaches in Texas is its festivals and live concerts. East Beach also hosts an annual sandcastle competition that attracts thousands.
Matagorda Bay Nature Park is more than 1,600 acres and promotes the preservation of the Wetlands. Two miles of this park's frontage spans along the Colorado River, making it a fantastic area to camp and enjoy the beach. In addition to camping, a few other recreational activities enjoyed by park visitors include fishing, birdwatching and kayaking.
Porretto Beach, located in Galveston, is a family-owned beach that's been in operation for more than 50 years. This beautiful beach attracts a variety of people, including newlyweds, families, couples, etc. Porretto Beach is a favorite beach among locals and tourists.
Galveston Island State Park is located on Texas' western gulf coast. Swimming, fishing, camping, hiking and wildlife viewing are just a few of the recreational activities this state park offers. Overall, Galveston Island State Park is a wonderful place to enjoy the gulf and beach area, whether it's by yourself, with a group of friends, or with family members.
Surfside Beach is located about an hour from Galveston, in Brazoria County. A great thing about this beach is that it's hardly ever crowded, making it perfect for families. Something else that attracts people to Surfside Beach is that it offers free parking.

Sylvan Beach Park, located in La Porte, features sandy beach areas, a pavilion, and a fishing pier that's popular among the locals. Because Sylvan Beach has really calm waves, it's a fantastic area for swimming. Sylvan Beach Park hosts the annual Sylvan Beach Festival and Crawfish Jam that attracts attendees from all over.
