2. Watkins Mill State Park

This State Historic Site and the surrounding park hold the only 19th-century textile mill in the United States that still has it's original machinery. The mill and home have been preserved well, and give visitors a look into life in the 1870s. This is one of the best state parks near Kansas City. While you're there, try out this easy trail!

Did you know Kansas City has a huge flea market that’s open every weekend? It’s true – and it’s absolutely massive. Super Flea is a bucket list destination all Kansas Citians should visit at least once. The best part is, there’s so much to see here that you might have to space it out over multiple days. Super Flea in Kansas City is located in an old Montgomery Wards building. There are so many rooms here, you won’t know where to go first! Let’s check it out.

Even if it’s not a perfect sunny weather day, don’t rule out a few beautiful Kansas City waterfalls for your next day trip. When searching for “waterfalls near Kansas City,” at least of few of these nine wonderful relaxing spots will surely be at the top of the list.

9. "Diana" The Intercontinental Hotel - 401 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO

This gorgeous statue is framed by a sheet of water falling 24/7 in front of The Intercontinental Hotel, one of the most well-known Kansas City hotels. It's perfect for a relaxing walk or a family photo.

This natural-looking waterfall lives in the lobby of the Westin Crown Center, and it's a bit bigger than it looks in pictures. Hanging out in a lobby always seems to be noisy and crowded, but if you wait here, you can enjoy the soothing water sounds before you're off on another adventure. If you've got more time to spend, explore the rest of Crown Center which also encompasses the LEGOLAND Discovery Center, Hallmark and its world headquarters, and several other entertainment options.

5. Watt's Mill - 103rd and State Line, Kansas City, MO

What used to be a mill is now an empty waterfall, no longer used to grind corn and wheat. The falls stem from the Indian Creek here, which is often prone to flooding, particularly during the flash floods that sweep through the Kansas City area off and on throughout the year. When the creek is low, the water falls about six feet before hitting the bottom of the drop.

4. Powell Gardens - 1609 N.W. U.S. Highway 50, Kingsville, MO

The manmade falls at Powell Gardens, one of the most popular botanical gardens in the Show Me State, are super relaxing, especially since they aren't your typical roaring waters that make a lot of noise. The quiet trickle of water really relaxes you when you've had a long day surrounded by cars. Perhaps the best part is that you get to enjoy the beautiful gardens on the property on your way to and from the waterfall.

3. Tryst Falls - Route 92, Excelsior Springs, MO

Tryst Falls is located within its namesake Tryst Falls Park. This little fall is one of my favorites because it's one of the best waterfall hikes in Missouri, and just so beautiful to photograph! It's naturally made, and you just feel so peaceful sitting near it. There's also a nearby playground, so it's perfect for a picnic lunch! While you're in the area, you might want to spend some time meandering through Excelsior Springs which is a charming little town.

2. Cedar Creek Falls - 625 Lakeshore Dr., Olathe, KS

Though it's technically an overflow dam, the Cedar Creek Falls in Olathe, a suburb of Kansas City on the Kansas side of the state line, can't be ignored when it comes to beauty. The rocks make the water tumble over many ledges, which is such a soothing sound to hear. It is one of the hiking trails with waterfalls in Kansas, and you can enjoy local fishing if you want a full day's worth of adventure!

1. Briarcliff Falls - NW Platte Rd. and NW Valley Ln., Riverside, MO

At the top of the list is Briarcliff Falls. They aren't natural, unfortunately, but they are a stunning location to visit when you're looking for some local beauty. There's also a great hiking opportunity! Taking the Briarcliff Linear Trail gives you a quick tour of this area north of the Missouri River from downtown Kansas City. It makes for a great 1.25-mile morning walk to start or end your day.

Anytime is a great time to relax next to one of the most soothing sounds the Kansas City metro area has to offer!

The Story Behind Kansas City’s Most Haunted House Will Give You Nightmares

Kansas City doesn’t seem to have a lot of specific buildings that are haunted. At least not in a way that attracts much attention these days. However, the Hotel Savoy right here in town has a story attached that might give you nightmares. It might just be the most haunted place in Kansas City! Check-in and check it out… if you dare.

Originally known as the historic Savoy Hotel and Grill, this historic hotel briefly closed in 2014, reopening several years later as the 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City.

The hotel itself is beautiful, with care put into every detail.

It does look dated these days however, which helps when you have haunting stories like these about the building.

Room 505 is the most notorious, with plenty to say about what goes on in that particular room. One man who stayed here reported that the water wouldn't stop turning on in his bathroom, no matter how many times he turned it off. Some time later, the manager walked past the apartment and heard jazz music playing from within the empty room.

A resident in the lobby also heard music and came to investigate the source of the music himself.

It wasn't coming from his clock radio, but a different radio sitting on his washing machine. The radio was always set to rock 'n' roll, and had somehow been changed to a different station and flipped on while he was away at work. It couldn't have been changed by anyone else, as he was carrying the only key to the apartment with him.

The creepiness didn't stop there, however. Months later, other events began happening.

One resident always kept the dividing door between the bedroom and living room firmly closed while he slept. At night, around 11:30 p.m., the door opened, but no one was around to push the heavy door. Years have passed since those incidents, and people who have recently investigated the apartment for further activity found nothing as creepy as before. Theories of the ghost haven't been able to locate who it might be, either, but they did find a sealed gun in the wall, and heard plenty of odd footsteps in the night.

Don’t you want something a little more close by, too? After all, we need all the time you can get if you’re going to be lost all day! Luckily, if you’re looking for a corn maze near Kansas City, we know of nine awesome ones. Let’s get lost together!

1. Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch - Kearney, Missouri

This corn maze at Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch in Kearney is an all-around great day trip because Fun Farm offers so much to do! It's got everything from a barrel train, to rubber duck races, and a pumpkin cannon. Now that's what I call fun!

This Kansas City corn maze is about 25 miles out of town.

2. Gary's Berries - Grantville, Kansas

Though this maze is popular with many Kansans, it's close enough for us to enjoy too! Gary's Berries has fun activities like pig racing, pony rides, and corn hole!

This one's about an hour away from Kansas City.

3. Kerby Farm - Bonner Springs, Kansas

Here at Kerby Farm you can enjoy lassoing a sawhorse, a kids' zipline, and a spook house. What more could a kid want?

This one's about 30 minutes from Kansas City.

4. Liberty Corn Maze - Liberty, Missouri

This is a big one! Liberty's maze is big, but there's more than one. Seven whole mazes are on the property, ranging from easy to difficult, which means you've got a reason to be here all day - and you can even tackle a corn maze at night!

This one's about 20 minutes from Kansas City.

5. Louisburg Cider Mill - Louisburg, Kansas

What started out as a cider mill is now a corn maze and awesome fall attraction. Come for the maze, but stay for the donuts and fresh apple cider.

So this one might not be a maze of corn, but who says a hay maze can't be fun too? Especially since Schaake's Pumpkin Patch offers activities like a straw romp, pumpkin patch, and farm animals that are oh-so cute!

This one's about 40 minutes from away, and if you've been searching for a pumpkin patch in Kansas City, this is a great choice.

7. Shucks Corn Maze - Pleasant Hill, Missouri

8. Johnson Farms - Belton, Missouri

Johnson Farms in Belton is packed with kids' activities, including big jumping pillows and a tire jungle! The maze itself covers 20 acres, which is a lot of room to take a wrong turn.

The Kansas City area is home to a couple million people and plenty to do. Of course, we naturally want to escape the city every once in a while, so where do we go when we like to head back to small towns and our roots? These nine underrated towns are a great start! How many have you visited? Here are some of the best small towns near Kansas City to escape to:

1. Parkville, Missouri

Parkville Nature Sanctuary is by far the top attraction, but you don't have to spend all day in nature to have a great time here. Visit the Olde Mill Emporium, the Hawthorne House, and all sorts of boutiques. Afterward, grab some grub at great restaurants like Nick & Jake's, Frank's, or Roxanne's Cafe. While the waterfall is crowded with people, you'll have free reign to explore the rest of this beautiful town.

2. Braymer, Missouri

Braymer is a town full of food, fun, and history everywhere you look. Busy Bee Cafe is a local favorite and is extra tasty when you've worked up an appetite from a day exploring this beautiful main street and it's shops.

3. Kearney, Missouri

Kearney is another Missouri town with a great personality and the food to match. Stop at Gino's, Cellar & Loft, or Slivinskis' Bakery for a tasty meal you'll want to enjoy again and again. There is all sorts of charm in this historic little town. Of course, that's pretty common around here, so what makes this one special? Local businesses like Shawnee Mound BBQ, Mallard's Roadhouse, Green Streets Market, and White Flower Quilt Shop! They might have the largest historic square and some awesome attractions, but it's the friendly residents that will really win you over.
