There’s something about Louisville life that stick with you. If you were born here, you’ll find that no matter where you go, the city will always be a part of who you are. Even if you travel across the globe, here are ten things that will never fail to remind you of home.
Louisville has several bridges that cross the Ohio River, and the traffic on them is one of everyone’s favorite things to complain about. Whether you love the bridges or hate them, you’ll never see another bridge without thinking of home.
Louisville loves Muhammad Ali. He was born and raised here, and he never forgot his roots. We have an enormous poster of him on a building downtown, so we’re used to seeing his face – and we miss it a bit when we don’t.

Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Oaks – a huge part of Louisville’s culture is based on horses, so if you see one in your travels, you’ll surely think of home.
I already mentioned that live horses can make a Louisvillian homesick, but horse statues can do the same thing. Several years ago, the mayor introduced Gallopalooza Horses, a series of horse statues decorated with any number of bright, colorful designs. You can see a many of these horses in front of businesses around the city, and it can be a game trying to find them all!
Louisville winters normally aren’t too bad, but the city does spend a lot of resources sending out salt trucks to brine the roads as soon as snow is mentioned in the forecast. Whether you agree that they’re necessary or not, all Louisvillians have strong feelings about these trucks.
Louisville’s weather can easily change from one minute to the next, so dressing in layers of that range from t-shirts to winter coats and back again each day just becomes part of life. On the upside, this makes us ready for any weather we might meet when we’re out of town!
All of Kentucky is known for its fried chicken, but when you ask Louisvillians for a great place to eat, chances are high that they will give you the name of a pizza parlor. From the classics like Bonnie and Clyde’s and Bearno’s to newer restaurants like Butchertown Pizza Hall and Coals Artisan Pizza, Louisville has some of the best pizza in the world.

The Louisville Free Public Library has nearly twenty branches spread out all over the city, and they are all still going strong. Whether people go in to find an obscure book for school or to use the free computers to complete job applications, the LFPL makes up part of the heart of Louisville, and we always think of it fondly.
Louisville might be a big city, but it also has some beautiful, nature-filled parks. Iroquois Park, Waverly Park, and Shawnee Park (just to name a few) are all full of trees and greenery, and the walking paths to help you escape the hustle and bustle of city life and get back to nature.
Louisvillians have big hearts. Everyone has their grumpy days, but it isn’t often that you see someone in need around here who isn’t being helped by someone else. Whether it is helping someone with car trouble, donating clothes, money, and time to charity, or volunteering at the Kentucky Humane Society or a soup kitchen, people from Louisville can be counted on to put others first.
