Christmas has always been a magical time of year, and it only got more magical with the release of Warner Bros. “Polar Express” film in 2004. Since then, children all over the world have wanted to go on the same magical train ride as the little boy in the movie – and thanks to the Kentucky Railway museum, the children of Louisville can do just that!
The Louisville Railway Museum has two Polar Express-style trains: The Santa Express and the North Pole Express. The Santa Express runs on December 16-17, and 21-22, and the North Pole Express runs on December 17, 21-22. The Christmas Express starts its journey at 3:00 in the afternoon, while the North Pole Express kicks off at 6:00 or 7:00 p.m., depending on the date.
Each train ride lasts approximately 90 minutes, and includes a visit from Santa. The North Pole Express actually goes to the North Pole to pick up Santa before he hops on board to meet and greet all the passengers!
In keeping with the Polar Express spirit, everyone is encouraged to wear their pajamas on board, so that they will be ready when they meet Santa. The Kentucky Railway Museum staff encourages everyone to bring their camera, so you don't miss any great photo ops!
Passengers on both trains will enjoy listening to Christmas music and basking in the glow of the beautiful Christmas lights as they experience this magical ride with their loved ones. On the Santa Express, you can even reserve your own private train car!
At the end of the ride, passengers can get a special, commemorative ornament, so that they can always remember their ride on Louisville's Polar Express.
The Kentucky Railway Museum is Located at 136 S. Main St., New Haven, KY 40051.
