The Oakroom has a truly incredible history, along with the best fine dining in the city. While it’s difficult to know whether it is truly the oldest dining spot in Louisville, it is definitely in the running and provides an unforgettable experience.
The grand Seelbach Hotel opened in 1905 at the corner of 4th and Walnut Street (now Muhammad Ali).
It was an immediate hit and the owners began to plan for an extension to accommodate the immense interest. Its eye-catching architecture and lavish interior began to draw just about everyone, including Al Capone and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
In 1907, the hotel opened The Oakroom and a legend was born.
Ever since, this restaurant has created an unmatched fine dining experience that has drawn the likes of celebrities, politicians, and during the "Roaring 20s," plenty of well-known gangsters.
Al Capone even sent the restaurant a large mirror to hang on the wall opposite of where he would sit, just to make sure he could always watch his back.
As Kentucky’s only AAA Five Diamond Restaurant since 1998, the menu is as memorable as the history.
It is created seasonally, using the freshest locally-sourced ingredients. The service is superb and from start to finish; they aim to make your meal at The Oakroom a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The Oakroom has been an exclusive dining spot in Louisville for over 100 years and is likely to continue the tradition for decades to come.
