Every city has its own lists of stereotypes, whether they’re true or not, and Milwaukee is no exception. Everyone likes to talk about controversies in our city, but don’t believe everything you hear; only the locals know the facts about living here. Whether it be good or bad, some things you just can’t deny, even if we have a hard time admitting it. These eight statements about Brew City might be brutally honest, but they couldn’t be more true.

1. Milwaukee takes drinking a little too seriously.

Milwaukee is called "Brew City" for a reason. We’re practically the beer capital of the world. Although beer is amazing and we’re home to the best brews, it can get a little out of hand when you’re drinking every night. Unless you’re drinking Pabst, of course.
2. Our sports teams are heartbreakers.

The Brewers and the Bucks are always top contenders but never quite make it all the way. We’ll never stop cheering them on, but let’s be honest, we’re in for heartbreak after heartbreak (though we hope not!)
3. Winter in Milwaukee is soul crushing.

When you get two feet of snow in April, it can be hard to justify why you still live here.
4. We’re all snobs about cheese here.

We laugh in the face of Kraft and look down on anyone who thinks dairy is better from California. Pfft!
5. Our addiction to frozen custard is getting out of hand.

We’re not arguing with you, frozen custard is better than ice cream, but when you wake up every morning to check what Kopp’s flavor forecast holds for the day, you might have a problem.
6. Everyone that’s from here has an accent.

No one will ever admit it, but we all have an accent. We pronounce names in a Milwaukee unique way, and everyone’s heard a Milwaukeean say "dere" instead of "there."
7. We’re very segregated (but hopefully not forever.)

It’s true, Milwaukee is one of the most segregated cities in the country. However, we’re all working hard to change this and help people see that there’s so much more to our city than the headlines.
8. Milwaukee is the best city in Wisconsin.

Sorry Madison, Milwaukee is simply the best. With amazing food, art, brews, and most importantly, the people, Milwaukee is simply the best city to be in. Outsiders might disagree due to some bad headlines, but once you visit, you won’t want to leave.
