Though we’re all familiar with Bradford Beach and lakeside attractions like Veterans Park, the outskirts of Milwaukee are full of hidden gems you’ve never even heard of. This tiny town just north of Racine is absolutely stunning, though many of us Milwaukeeans have probably never even visited! Let’s learn more about this charming town near Milwaukee that’s worth a day trip.
Welcome to the village of Wind Point, a peaceful beach town in Wisconsin.
This tiny residential village just 45 minutes south of Milwaukee is full of awesome views and incredible landmarks resting right on the shores of our great lake.
The most eye-catching landmark of this village has to be the lighthouse!
Wind Point is definitely a lighthouse town! Wind Point Lighthouse is one of the oldest and tallest active lighthouses on the shores of Lake Michigan. The light was lit in 1880 and hasn't gone out since. Wind Point Lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places and totally worth a visit.

Besides the lighthouse, other unique architecture holds fame in this small town.
Wind Point is home to Wingspread, a historic house built in the '30s by Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright is the architect of many famous Milwaukee structures, and this one is just as stunning (and one of the most expensive!). The house was built for Herbert Fisk Johnson Jr., who was the president of S.C. Johnson. Now, the building is home to The Johnson Foundation, and they offer tours of the property.
Wind Point is only roughly 1.5 square miles and is home to less than 2,000 people, but is a well to do town. The median income is over $100k and the village is home to Prairie School - one of the best college-prep schools in the nation. The campus design was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's work as well!
This town isn't only beautiful, it's truly close-knit! The community often meets together for movie nights or other events, and everyone looks out for each other.
A beach town wouldn't be a beach town without an amazing beach!
Wind Point sits along Lake Michigan, and upon the shore, you'll find the incredible Shoop Park. Whether you just want to stroll through the greenery or tee off at the popular Shoop Park Golf Course, this park is the perfect spot to take in the wonderful views of Wind Point.
