7. Marrakesh

If you want an authentic Moroccan dining experience, there's only one place to go. Marrakesh is a tiny restaurant where you'll be in close quarters, sitting on cushions on the floor, dining from authentic plates and tasting plenty of great dishes. Find it at 517 S Leithgow St., Philadelphia.

8. Moshulu

The famed Moshulu is docked at Penn's Landing, and it's the only tall ship restaurant in the world. As one of the most historic cities in all of America, it makes sense that the history of our great city includes many things Philly did first. We’ve literally changed not only the country, but the entire world through the course of Philadelphia history. There are so many Philadelphia firsts, many thanks to our famous founding fathers like Benjamin Franklin and William Penn. We can brag about so many inventions from Philadelphia and things Philly did first. Here are a few of the most notable Philadelphia firsts:

1. Philadelphia was home to the very first zoo in America.

The first zoo in America was chartered in 1859. However, the outbreak of the Civil War delayed the opening of the Philadelphia Zoo until July 1, 1874. When the zoo opened, the collection numbered around 1,000 animals, and admission was only a quarter. Today, the Philadelphia Zoo is one of the best zoos in the entire world. It's renowned for breeding animals that otherwise struggle in captivity, and it's known as a worldwide leader in conservation efforts for many endangered species.

2. Another great Philadelphia first: we were home to the first lending library in America.

In the 1730s, books were hard to come by for the average American citizen. Books were expensive, and there weren't any public libraries. On July 1, 1731, Ben Franklin and a group of members from the philosophical organization known as "The Junto" decided to help solve this problem and make reading more accessible. The group drew up an agreement to form a library. Books were ordered from London, and the library's motto was a Latin phrase that means "to support the common good is divine." A few of the books in the library's collection were donated by Benjamin Franklin himself.

3. Philadelphia opened up the first hospital in America.

Dr. Thomas Bond first sought to create a public hospital in the United States in the 1750s. With the help of Benjamin Franklin, Pennsylvania Hospital was founded on May 11, 1751. Pennsylvania Hospital was also home to America's first surgical amphitheater. In another Philadelphia first, the hospital would house the first medical library in the country. The main building, which dates back to 1756, still stands today.

4. Philadelphia was America's first planned city.

William Penn founded the city in 1682. He created a grid that was based around five squares, which are now known as Rittenhouse, Washington, Logan, Franklin, and City Hall. This was the very first time a North American city had been officially planned.

5. Philadelphia was home to the world's first computer.

It may not look like the computers we know and use daily today, but ENIAC was the world's first all-purpose digital computer. It was invented at the University of Pennsylvania in 1946. Can you imagine where we'd be without it? It's incredible to think that we now hold more computing power than this in our hands each day!

6. The first department store parade was in Philadelphia.

The very first department store parade was the 1920 Gimbel's Thanksgiving Day parade, which took place in Philadelphia. Macy's may be the famous one today, but their New York parade didn't start until four years later, after they saw the success of teh Philadelphia holiday celebration.

7. Here's another invention from Philadelphia that's used pretty frequently: the first American flag was sewn here.

Okay, there's no concrete evidence that Betsy Ross was the actual designer of the first American flag. However, it is certain that an upholsterer or seamstress in Philadelphia was the first to make the many flags that the colonial troops were to carry into battle during the American Revolution.

8. The first fourth of July celebration took place in Philadelphia.

The country was just a year old when cannons were fired across the Delaware River from Philadelphia on July 4, 1777. The celebration marked one year since independence had been declared from Britain from the cobblestone streets of Philadelphia.

9. The first "university" in America opened up in Philadelphia.

While Harvard, William and Mary, Yale, and Princeton often fight this claim, it's true that UPenn was the first medical school in the country - it was founded in 1765. Therefore, it was the very first American school to offer both undergraduate and graduate education. It was also the first institution in the country to use the title "university."

10. The first American volunteer fire company was in Philly.

Benjamin Franklin's Bucket Brigade at the Union Fire Company was the very first volunteer fire department in the country. It was founded back in 1736. Where would our city be without Ben?!

11. The first museum in America opened up in Philadelphia.

The Museum of the American Philosophical Society was founded in 1743. This makes it the oldest museum in America. The society is even considered the country's first "learned" society.

1. Watch where you park.

Whether you're on team #savesies or #nosavesies, you need to pay attention to where you park after a snowstorm. While many residents believe you should be able to save the spot you spend all morning shoveling out, others side with the Philadelphia Police, who are quick to point out that the streets are open to public parking, and shoveling out a spot is not a way to claim it as your own. Plus, claiming things at a first-come, first-serve type of place is just plain rude. Don't be that guy.

2. Invest in some good snow boots.

Philadelphia's streets and sidewalks get downright messy after a snowstorm! Most of our winter weather is that sloppy snow-rain mix that will have your standard boots and sneakers soaked and covered in mud almost immediately, so it's wise to have a pair of boots that will keep you warm and dry on a cold and wet day. Heavy snow: fun for the kids, significantly less so for the adults.

3. Try to enjoy the sunny, warm days.

Throughout winter, Philadelphians are surprised with random warm and sunny days. Don't waste these days inside - get out and explore local parks (like Valley Forge) or Wissahickon. Finding ways to soak up sunlight and warmth during winter is one way to make it feel like it doesn't really last forever. Fun fact: winter only lasts, on average, for about 3.1 months in Philly.

4. Stay off the roads when it's really bad out.

PennDOT does its best, but keeping city streets clear is a challenge. Try to enjoy a snow day and stay off the roads. This is probably easier said than done, but... try.

5. Speaking of trying things, don't even try to shop the day before a storm.

Everyone in Philadelphia flocks to the grocery store as soon as the weather suggests snow! Milk, eggs, and bread sell out. It's not worth the madness to try to shop before it snows, so keep a few ready-to-eat meals around so you won't have to face the chaos before a storm. What if it's a conspiracy between Big Dairy and Big Weather to get us to buy more? We have questions.

6. Expect SEPTA delays.

It's inevitable - SEPTA struggles in snow. Give yourself plenty of extra time if you have somewhere to be on a snowy day.

7. Be prepared for anything.

In Philly, a sunny day can turn into a rainout with no warning, and in winter, our wild weather can be especially unpredictable. We remember getting stranded in 2013, when a flurry turned into two feet of snow, and we couldn't get out of the suburbs for hours. We also had to scrape off our cars with a cookie sheet... needless to say, we keep ice scrapers and an umbrella in our trunks now.

8. Bundle up!

The wind in Philadelphia makes a big difference in winter weather! It might be 40 degrees out, but with enough wind, you'll feel completely frozen. Never underestimate the wind chill, especially in Center City. You can always add more layers!

9. Don't put all your eggs in one... nest?

Eagles fans know that a disappointing season makes the winter blues feel even more real. This year, we've got a lot of hopes in our Iggles... but remember, they're the Eagles... and you can't get your hopes up too high just yet. Or ever.

The Holiday Garden Railroad is a sight to see! The United States was founded in the streets of Philadelphia! The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights were all written and signed in our city. 3. You'll never meet anyone quite like a Philadelphian.

Philadelphia is full of characters. You can meet strangers who give you interesting unsolicited advice, die-hard Eagles fans, Philly Jesus, or some of the best chefs, restauranteurs, and bakers - all on the same day.

4. One word: Mummers.

Where else would you find a parade like the Mummers, where people dress up in elaborate costumes for the ultimate performance competition, in the freezing cold, on New Years' Day? It is definitely one of the most favorite holiday traditions in the entire state.

5. We love to invent amazing foods.

7. We've got a ton of green space, despite being a very urban city.

Philadelphia's park system includes Fairmount Park and Wissahickon Gorge, which combine to make it one of the greenest cities in the country. These are just two of the most beautiful places to spend some time in and around the city.

Fort Washington was a significant site during the American Revolution, when it was known as Whitemarsh. General George Washington established a base here, successfully fending off British troops despite the bloody battle of Germantown and preventing all but local skirmishes. Eventually, Washington led his troops to Valley Forge... and the rest, as they say, is history. Modern day Fort Washington is home to historic structures, trails, and a disc golf course. The walking paths cross streams via beautiful wooden bridges that make this a haven for photographers.

Washington's Crossing State Park is another national historic site just outside of Philadelphia.
