La Jolla Beach Trail is the place to go if you’re looking for a kid-friendly outdoor adventure. They’ll get to see the harbor seals in action up close when they explore the beautiful beach area. It’s only open from May 16th through December 14th annually in order to allow the seals their pupping season, so summer and fall are the perfect times to take this unique beach hike in Southern California.

The 2.3-mile trail is considered an easy one, so it’s an excellent choice for a walk to take with your family and hikers of all ages. With no big hills or rough terrain, it’s safe for little legs to hike too.
If you come in June or July, you might also get to see the sweet seagulls and their baby birds in the nest or learning to fly. The beach-dwelling birds live in the area year-round, though, so you’ll always have a chance to see the adults.
There’s lots of wildlife to love on the La Jolla Beach Trail. The harbor seals make their home here as well, and they love to sunbathe, so you’re almost certain to get to see lots of them. For your safety, make sure you give them space while you observe them in their habitat.
